This morning stared out with a delight. There was an email from an author who's books I really like. He had found himself on my book pages and like what he read. Plus, his note included his website url and I discovered that he's written a book I haven't read! Gorman Becham wrote Balls which is one of my favorite novels ever. It was written years ago about the year 2000 when Major League baseball finally let a woman on a team. It's really a fun book that I've given to a gazillion people. I'm always guying new copies to give away. It was great fun to hear from him.

I started listing the books I've read as I read them on my website in 1995. It took authors a while to catch on but I hear from about one or another every couple of months and it's always such a thrill. I don't really write reviews. I write recommendations. If I hate a book I rarely finish it. And I don't write about books I don't finish so mainly the ones on my website are those I have enjoyed.

Publishers have also caught on and every once in a while I get free books in the mail and email from publishers asking if I want to read this book or that and review it. I never promsie a review but they always send me the books for free. Often there is a real gem in these freebies.

But still the reason I list the books on the website is in hopes that I won't buy the same book twice. This works better than it used to before I started listing them all but not perfectly. Just last week I discovered two copies of one book on my ToBeRead shelves. Oh well. Generally these days I buy all my books off a website of used books and rarely pay more than $3 for any of them (including shipping). Even then, I usually sell them for about what I pay for them. Keeps the habit going.

Here's the sweater I've been working on.... Pattern from the Fall 2002 Knitter's. Lion Brand MicroSpun 10 skeins (maybe 11). #6 needles. Followed the pattern pretty closely (which is fairly unusual for me)...
