So my friend Rick (of Rick and Jack, formerly of Atlanta but now of San Jose) is in town on business. He's the world's worst communicator and always has been. He's in personnel so his lack of communications skills should come as no surprise. Anyway he sends me his intinerary (the one from Expedia) in email and follows it with an IM that he may not be staying at the hotel, he may try and stay at his favorite B&B oh and can we do dinner on Monday and/or Tuesday. That was week before last.

I heard nothing more and sent him an email asking him if he were coming. He IM's me 'yes'. He knows I hate IM and only have it on during work hours because it's a handy work tool. I sent him an email reiterating this, giving him my cell number and asking him to email or call me with details of what he wants to do. That was on Friday.

Monday he IM's me again this time telling me he's coming but he's sick. He's also a hypochondriac in addition to a drama queen. I said fine, Monday night would be hard for me to get out anyway and let's do Tuesday. I send him email with my cellphone number again. An hour later he IM's me wanting my cell phone number - his IM says he deleted the email before he wrote it down.

I have not hear shit since. It is now 4:30 on Tuesay. Are we going out to dinner or not? I don't know. He's got until 6 and then I'm declaring him a no show. So rude.

He's a really nice guy and I've known him since forever and he drives me nuts.

Rick pulled his sorry little ass out of the fire and called before 6 and we went out to one of my favorite places - a little French bistro place. They pour a whole lot of really good scotch into their scotch and water and they make heavenly pomme frittes.

We got all caught up and it was great fun. He and Jack are going to celebrate their 20th anniversary next week and I remember the weekend they met. We all lived in North Carolina then. Rick was an intern in the personnel department and I was writing stuff for IBM in Charlotte. He met Jack volunteering at a crisis hotline - and belive me in the early 80's gay men had more than enough crisises in Charlotte, NC. There were four of us originally. Me, Jack, Rick and Bernard. Bernard was the first person I ever knew to get and die of AIDS. We barely knew what it was then. 1984.

But tonight was fun and dinner was delicious. And the housecleaner came today and the house is beautiful. All is right with the world.
