Blog vs. LJ
Jan. 16th, 2003 08:42 amA couple of months ago I created a blog for my knitting. I chose blog over LJ because once it's set up, it's a one button deal to post both text and photo. This is something LJ should look into - ftp the photo at the same time you upload the entry. But, anyway...
But, setting up and tweaking LJ is a no-brainer compared to setting up a Blogger blog with all the parts and pieces you might want. You have one piece of software to update with - it's web based and pretty nice but it's pretty much a one-trick pony.
Then you need to find a service for commenting. I can't remember how I found the one I'm using but I just logged on there and discovered that they aren't taking on any more customers. Oh and they only handle the commenting. You need a reader to get notified when a comment is made. None of LJ's 'just send me an email'.
There's yet another service where you can offer notification of updates. This service is pretty slick BUT I just discovered that it, too, isn't taking on any more customers. It does off the subscriber the ability to get the entire entry in an email which is pretty nice. And I'm not sure how I would replicate that in LJ.
Then you have to remember it all when you want to change something. And there's no memory function. I'm giving serious thought to switching the whole thing over to LJ and just writing a script myself to upload the photos every day. I need to conjure on this.
Oh, if you want to see... My knitting blog. And I'd love suggestions.
