Mom is fine. We're apparently off the 'when am I going back to my apartment'. Today it was 'I don't have any idea when and I'm ok with that.' Whew.

The bank that does her bill paying faxed me a copy of Polly's latest bill. I keep telling them to pay whatever Polly asks for but they keep faxing me a copy for approval. Which is hilarious since the problem with Polly is that she does not charge NEARLY enough. Last month she stopped in to see Mom nearly every single day - weekends included. She made sure Mom had everything from her apartment that she needed. She got mail. She ran to Walgreens. She sent me email and asked if there was any snack food that might entice Mom to eat. She helped me fix Mom's computer. She was there - on duty and ready at all times. Her invoice for the month - $88. And $20 of that was a phone card I asked her to get for Mom!

I know she's not in it for the money but I'd feel a little better if she'd charge just a little closer to a reasonable rate.

The woman at the bank sent an email that after reading a couple of Polly's invoices, she realized that she had some other trust clients who could use the same services so she got business cards and brochures from Polly to hand out to bank clients. (I did tell her that she had better let her clients know that my Mom is and always will be Polly's Customer #1!)

The test amounts from Ameritrade showed up today in my savings account at the credit union. I popped over to Ameritrade, entered the numbers and received yet another nice screen saying my account had been verfied. Yeah, right... We'll see about that.

I requested that they suck out the money from my credit union savings account - again. It's now 'pending'. I'm cautiously hopeful...

The Clinton Effect is now the tag given to all those people my age who are storming emergency rooms with chest pains and shortness of breath. When you get to your mid-50's, after having smoked for a good 40 of those years and you eat everything you shouldn't and you are fat and you never ever see a doctor, you don't ever really feel great and sometimes you really feel crummy but you never do know if you are feeling the effects of age/smoking/fat or if you are actually feeling something critical.

If I were the sort that is interested in medical intervention, I'd be one of those Clinton Effect people. Absolutely.

But, instead, I read an article in the paper this morning about one of them who actually plopped down $400 for a same day private CAT scan-type of test and learned that he really only had minor blockage in one artery - nothing even remotely life threatening. I'm going to believe that I'm like him instead of Clinton. Thanks.

And then there's Bette Midler and Jane Pauley. Yesterday, on Jane's show, they were sharing about life after menopause is over and how great it is - both allowing as how they were through it and on the other side. Now, Jane is younger than I am by about 18 months and Bette's about 4 years older. I haven't done a lot of research but the few things I've read is that the main indicator that you are out the other side of menopause is when you have not had a period for 12 months. I had one about 4 months ago. So, I guess I'm just still a young chick.

The only indication of menopause I've ever had is that my periods which were never a big deal got to be a much smaller deal and not so often. I have not suffered the way one is supposed to. I suspect I'll pay those dues at another time.

I got interupted in the middle of this entry and before I got back to it, I remembered to do my daily check of UPS tracking to see if there was news of my camera. It's ground shipping so you don't get the minute by minute report and it's not due here until tomorrow but check on the tracking number sure beats getting started on my next project So I did. And... The UPS website says that my camera is right now...

OUT FOR DELIVERY!!!

Dance of joy here.

The good news is that the camera is here... It's charging up now. 2 more hours and I can play. It's a tiny little thing with lots more options than I'm trained for.

The bad news is that I just got an email from social worker at 'the home' - it was sent to me and my sister and address 'dear family' - leaving out my brother and sister-in-law entirely which I thought was interesting. It said that Mom was going back to her apartment on Monday. When my sister was there, she told the social worker (and everyone else) that when Mom was ready to go back into her apartment, she would come back and stay with her and make sure everything was fine. Of course, the minute she got back home, she started in about how she has so much to do and so many responsibilities that should couldn't possibly go back on such short notice.

So now we cut to no notice. The email from the social worker clearly assumes that Nancy will be there on Monday ready to help Mom. My sister-in-law who would normally get stuck with the job will, gratefully, be on vacation with my brother in Maine for the week. Whew. I am not going. I thought about it and I'm not. I don't want to and it wouldn't be fair to the folks at work. So, it's my sister or we hire someone and since she stuck her nose in, it's her decision to make. So there.

This could be interesting...

I'm going to focus on my new camera! Pun intended.
