A quickie

I need to get back to work but I also need a mini break so here I am in LJ land...

We had a great time last night. Alan and Keiran had not seen the condo in a while - actually longer than I had remembered. So the tour took a while. They are in to every detail. It's fun to watch them look.

We had wine and cheese. I had picked up the cheese at the Japanese grocery. In general, the Japanese are not so big on dairy. The grocery did not even carry any dairy items at all 10 years ago. But they are all big and grown up now and they have everything - including a generically labeled 'French Cheese'. Which turns out to be $6.05 worth of heaven! We all loved it. They made me dig the label out of the trash.

Then we hit the streets to see the art... along with every-other-person-on-the-face-of-the-planet! Holey moley. My 'hood was hoppin'. The galleries - not air conditioned in 85 degree weather - were packed. Great people watching. It was fun. We ended up in Chinatown at my favorite Chinese restaurant in air conditioned comfort with major yummy food.

My eVac arrived yesterday. It has to charge before use so I did not get to see if it works or not. I'll be testing it the minute I get home. Betty remembered the last one. I set it on the floor to charge. She parked a bit away but facing and watching for about 15 minutes until she was sure that this one was going to stay put. She does crack me up.

Also I need to stop at the library on the way home. It will be too hot but they have the new Sara Paretsky ready for me to pick up and my current read will hit 'The End' tonight so I guess I'll brave the heat for V.I. Warshawski.

Enough for now. Back to work for me.

Well, as expected, the eVac didn't work. That's not entirely true. It did work, for 30-45 seconds, it sucked like a vacuum cleaner. Then for a minute to a minute and a half, it wandered around the room. I was able to repeat this as much as I wanted and while it was great fun to watch the cats with it, it's a bit much for a cat toy.

So I called them again. It was an arduous call because I decided that I wanted a Roomba instead. And I wanted it now. And I didn't want to pay shipping. I got the Roomba and I am not paying shipping but they are still not going to ship it until they get this broken eVac back which they aren't going to get back until they snail mail me the postage paid label and I schlep it to the fucking post office... So, best case, I'll have it about the 24th of August.

The guy told me he had bypassed the step where after they get the return, they send me some kind of certificate to sign before they will ship the new one. So he was saving me at least a couple of weeks.

Fuckall.

I just decided it was too hot and I was too tired of fighting Sheri to get stuff done and John to finish the shelves and one more time fight was just too many. So I said ok. And I'll deal.

I did, however, look up their email address and sent an email begging them to please ship it now. I pointed out (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] henare) that they had my credit card number. If they didn't get their broken product back, they could charge the card. OR charge it now and then apply the credit when they get the broken one back.

I'm sure my email went into a black hole but at least I tried.

And it's Friday. And the Mariners were not losing there for a couple of innings. (Can there be anything more humiliating than being beaten by the Mariners? Oh yeah, being beaten by Tampa Bay...)
