Day 5

I did 15 minutes - mostly at 2 but some at 2.5.  Hips were fine.  And I was fine.  I may up this to 20.

Then I did my exercises.  Turns out I couldn't remember one of them but I got the others.  I'm just not sure I'm doing them right.  But, I did them.

And timing.  I woke up at my usual time and did my usual coffee, newspaper, NPR and then, in no big hurry, got dressed for the gym, went over and did my thing - again in no hurry - came home and showered and dressed and I still have PLENTY of time to get to the car place by 9 tomorrow.  I can even start the 20 mins on the treadmill tomorrow and still get there in time.

Good.

Jake tried to hide my star stickers.  But I found 'em.   On the floor under the desk.  Nice try.

So...  The last two things on my list were to connect up the Netgear USB wireless adapter and see if I could connect the Vista machine to my neighbor's internet network and install the printer/fax.

Wireless adapter.  Check.  Well, kinda.  I plugged it in.  Vista found it and found a driver and said we were good to go.  I unplugged the ethernet cable and, sure enough, no sweatola.  Cool.  Then I plugged the ethernet cable back in and unplugged the adapter and WHAP!  Blue screen!  no shit.  haven't seen one of those in forever.

Note to self, why don't you try the Safely Remove Hardware thingie next time??!!

But, Vista came on back up and repaired itself.  It stopped just short of apologizing but I understand. I probably hurt its feelings.

On to the printer.

First I checked HP's pages.  Nope.  No Vista driver yet.  BUT, the page says that Vista includes drivers to make it print and with Vista Ultimate (which I have), it will scan and the memory cards work.  (It has a memory card slot??!!! Who knew?!)

One of the things that I don't like about HP is all the crap they make you install just to get their stinkin' drivers.  All I want to do is print and scan.

So... I unplug the USB cord from the old desktop and plug it into the new one.  In less than 2 mins I'm printing and scanning!  And the scanning thing - built into Vista is VERY VERY nice!

Wow.   Cool.  Excellent.

Work has been minimal - a page here a tweak there so I've had the luxury of being able to work down my lists.   The Vista one is done!  Nice.

I decided to trot up to the good sushi place for lunch and then I figured while I was there, I'd go an extra block to the free ATM.  So... I put on my nice new bouncy shoes and off I went.

The ATM is one of two - side by side - in the Metro office (where you can get all things bus. passes, schedules, etc.).  Both machines belong to credit unions and both are the slide your card through kind instead of the stick your card in kind.   You know for sure it's not going to eat your card.  I slid my card in and told it I wanted cash.  It said fine.  It asked me if I wanted anything else.  I said no, thank you and it flashed the 'welcome, slide your card' screen.  Yo, buddy... where's my cash????

That's a pretty disconcerting thing to happen.  I had asked for a fairly sizeable chunk of cash.  Did I not ask nicely enough?  Did it debit my account and save the cash inside somewhere for a night on the town later?  Arugh.  So I wrote down the name and the phone number on the machine and successfully got my cash out of the machine next to it.  Thank you.

When I got home, I checked my account immediately and it was fine.  Just the one withdrawal.  Whew.  And the sushi was yummy!

Next I think I'll clean up the kitchen and empty the dishwasher and then maybe I'll sit down and read the novel I started last night.

nice day!
