susandennis: (workout)
I did 30 minutes of treadmill with one prolongated sprint... it was good.

While treadmilling, I was watching a guy in the classroom.  Last Saturday, Rosie gave me a new exercise which is impossible to do.  It involves lifting up into position and then holding there.  I could barely lift up on Saturday.  On Tuesday, I got up and held for possibly 2 seconds - probably 1.  This morning there was a guy in the classroom doing the exact same exercise only he got up perfectly and held it for more than a minute!  Plus he looked like he could have stayed there all day.  Cripe.

Maybe tomorrow I'll try for 2.5 seconds.

I was late getting to the gym so there were really very few people in there - pretty much just me and plank boy - it was strange.

I go back this afternoon to talk to the physical therapist and see what things I need to do and not do to prevent my back from another episode...

But, now... it's shower time.

I so love my new chair and ottoman. Visually, they are a huge huge huge improvement. On Myles of Style last week, Kim Myles said you should buy stuff for your home that will delight you as much after you've had it for years as it does when you see it for the first time. That is, actually, a very bad paraphrase, BUT for the past week, every time I walk into my living room, I'm tickled again by the color, the shape, the very fungshwayness of the pieces and how they change entirely the way the room looks and works... for the good.

But, my ass also loves it. It's been sitting in one position for 3 years now and it is so thrilled with the variety. Sometimes we have our legs up. Sometimes down. Sometimes folded indian style. I can have the computer on my lap or in front of me on a stand or on the side. There is plenty of room for both cats to sit at my side or my feet or on my legs.

It's just a wonderful, wonderful thing in so many ways. Well worth the money and the wait.

I just got a good 15 hour project to work on that is easy peasy and has no particular deadline. Sweet! Most of it involves moving files from one spot to another - they are giant files in nice folders so I click 'copy to...' and then wait an hour or so. Not exactly heavy lifting.

The little thermometer says I have 20 minutes remaining on this batch so I think I'll go see what's for lunch!

Tija - the owner of my gym -  works this great deal with the physical therapy place across the street.   She trades gym membership for free physical therapy consultations for gym members.  Today was the third time I've used the service and it was great again.

Carrie said that likely, I irritated a disk in my back and probably did it over the past couple of years sitting on that chaise in the same position all day and evening.  She even showed me how she bet I sat and she was right on the money.  She gave me a good exercise to do to help strengthen that particular area and told me to work on my core (I'm sure Rosie paid her for that core thing).

She said that what I did - the treadmill - was the best thing I could do for it when I irritated it.  And she encouraged me to vary my sitting as much as possible and to use the legs straight out in front of me option as little as possible.  My new furniture is perfect for variation.

She also said that it was perfectly fixable and probably fixed since now it does not hurt at all.  My mother used to say that once you have back trouble it only gets worse.  So I was really afraid I was doomed.  Guess not!

Very good.
