Last night, just before I went to bed, the keyboard on my desktop computer died. I guess it had just had one too many lunches spilled on it, No mourning. I never liked that keyboard anyway.

My perfect keyboard has a good feel to the keys which have good action to them and that keyboard is lighted. I'm a touch typist but, I use so many different keyboards all day that I do need to look to find Ctrl and Windows and Alt among others. I like a numbers pad but it's not critical. The keyboard that died last night had beautiful lighting but a horrible feel and keys that didn't even work well before they were drenched with Diet Dr. Pepper and wedged with crumbs.

I've never found my perfect keyboard. My surfing last night revealed no new keyboard news. This time, I'm not going to spend $50 for a keyboard that is not what I want.

Happily, we have a wonderful used PC store and a visit there this morning can be easily woven into my light rail/breakfast/walk adventure this morning. I love the place. There are bins of the most marvelous bits and pieces - mice and keyboards and cables of all kinds. Then there is an AS IS room that is nearly as good as their Computer Museum room which is always a treat.

And it is not raining. So I am going to get up and get dressed and put on my red (actually it's more the color of pomegranate) coat and grab the wonderful ear/neck warmer that [livejournal.com profile] yesthatjill made for me last year, and hit the road. Later, gaters!

Before I left on my walk, I did a little shopping in my own cupboard and found a cheap old keyboard in fairly good shape. Now, why wasn't I using that? Oh, PS/2 plug. My setup calls for a long road between keyboard and CPU. So my mission changed...

I got to the wonderland of old shit and discovered they had both a male ps/2 to USB connector and a ps/2 male/female extension cord! So I got both. Now I'm using the cheap old keyboard and I remember why I didn't like it. Too small. I may go back and pick up one of their large old IBM keyboards - they have lots for $5 each.

The joint was heated to the max so I did not linger too long but it was great fun as usual.

If your mouse needs balls... For 20 bucks you can go to 1970 Get yer red hot beta max

These are thumbnails. The one on the end is a real 'as is' Sony Beta Max.

It was an excellent adventure.

I'm giving the frog another chance in hopes that my idea on easier toes will be as cool as the PIA toes of the first one.
