This is my collection for the new dishwasher. I'm ready.
In fact, that's actually my plan for the day... I might go to the pool but I might not. I might get Herman Wouk's new book on my Kindle and hunker down on the fish bed and read it. I might just watch some Netflix and knit bear.
I could do laundry and the closet where I keep shirts and pans needs a big reorg. But, none of that has to be done today.
My new Dyson is wonderful. I love having a breath of warm air just where I want it. Last night I got carried away and it got too hot, so I just lowered the temperature to 32 and ahhhh a nice breeze of cool air. If I keep my hands off the adorable little remote, the thermostat will turn it off and on as needed.
What I love best is that I can be toasty in the living room and then, when it's time to go to bed, my bedroom is cool and perfect for burrowing under the duvet.
While the concept of central air is genius, I've never loved central heat. I have baseboard heaters in three rooms here but I never use them. They take way too long to heat up and then twice as long to cool off again. This little buddy is just what I need.
Follow ups
Nov. 16th, 2012 01:07 pmThe Dyson magic machine does have one flaw. When you first turn on the heater OR it comes back on at the behest of the temperature, it blows cold air. The instructions call this 'calibration'... fuck that. It's cold air blowing right at you when you turn it on to get warm. It only lasts about 30 seconds but those are a pretty cold 30 seconds! Calibration.. way to sell it, Dyson!
Also I'm noticing that the blowing air is drying my eyes out. Interesting - not fatal but interesting.

I took the TV Guide down to Ann's this morning - 3 days early, thank you very much. And I attached a note "Thank you for all the magazines you've left for me. I've enjoyed them all. I can get all of them now online so I no longer need them 'on-door'. Thanks, S."
Fingers crossed that this works.

Dishwasher almost here.

So the new dishwasher sticks out. It's too deep for the hole. It doesn't stick out that much but seriously, too deep for the hole???? Oh well. The installer guys took hours to get it in but it's and it's running now and it is very very quiet.
I hate having to lean over all that way to load and unload. I already miss my wonderful drawers.
But the real bad news is that the kitchen just needs a redo. The laminate strip on the counter edge over the dishwasher is peeling off - I gorilla glued it back but it means the rest is probably peeling off, too. The cabinet doors all need new hardware - not outside but inside so they hang straight.
I need a new sink, new counter top, new cabinet doors and a back splash. There is no way I cold live though a kitchen redo. It's just got to outlast me. It's just got to!
At least the new dishwasher is in and works and is paid for.

On the up side....
Nov. 16th, 2012 06:06 pmThe dishes and silverware are cleaner than they have EVER been! Holy crap. And the dishes dry quickly as soon as I open the door after the washing is finished. The plastic lids, not so fast but no biggie.
I think I may just put all my daily silverware in for the next run and get it all good, clean and sparkly!
And I think my gorilla glue on the laminate strip may have worked.
I got the final papers today for my IBM pension. Signed, made a copy, slapped my birth certificate copy on and it's all ready to mail tomorrow. Done. Yeah!
