I rarely take a shower in my own bathroom.  Since I shower every day at the pool, my own tub/shower - behind a beautiful curtain - mainly serves to house my penguin humidifier when I'm not using it.  But today, I broke the mold.  Zoey was shocked, I tell you.  You know it's been a while when you actually have to read the labels on the bottles to know you are using shampoo and not conditioner or body soap instead of shampoo (although, really, what the heck does it matter?)...

But, now I'm showered and dressed and ready to hit the road.  It's a lot of work. I miss the pool. It's a lot of work there, too but at least it's the tail end of the workout.

Zoey is watching me very carefully.  She's as tuned into routine as I am and does not seem all that comfortable when the regular rhythm is broken.  But, she's such a good cat. I was thinking last night, in all the years I've had cats, I don't think I've ever had one as low maintenance as she is.  I finally have the litter box fixed so I can't smell it or see it and she can't pee over the edge.  She has no interest at all in any kind of food but dry kibbles.  And she does not care which kind.  She's not too thin and not too fat and eats what she wants when she wants.  She snuggles with me sometimes and ignores me others.  She plays with her toys sometimes - enough to get them scattered all over the house - and ignores them sometimes.  She's the perfect cat.  And now she's trying to prevent me from typing.

So I think I'll find my shoes and hit the road.

After a few minutes of kitty rubs.

I made it!

Today's adventure "Things To Do Until My Pool Opens in 10 More Days" was pretty much a huge success.

First of all, I discovered that the new bus stop - 1.5 blocks from here - serves 3 buses and 2 of them run all day 7 days a week.  This is huge.  20 years ago we had great bus service here but over the years, they have chipped away at it until 4 years ago, we had none.  The next closest bus stop is about 7 city blocks from here.  The buses at the new block run about every 15 minutes and get me to the other side of town (and then north of town, if I want) which is perfect.

This was a BIG and delightful discovery.  Next month, the bus fair for me goes from $2.50 to $.75.  This bus stop is my new best friend.

I got off the bus and made my way to the French cafe and had a great breakfast while I read my book and listened to chatter around me.  Then I started the 3 or so blocks from there to Pike Place Market to see [livejournal.com profile] badrobot68.  On the way my right hip started hurting with every step.  I mean really hurting. I had to stop about every 10 steps.  I thought I was in mega deep shit.  I do not need hip trouble.  I stopped and got some cheese and had to stand for a fairly long time while the cheese lady did her stuff.  And, turns out, that standing fixed the hip!
[livejournal.com profile] badrobot68 took a picture of my jacket (I forgot to hide my ugly hand but maybe the big fat chin will distract you from seeing the hand)...   We had a fun little visit and then I headed out to walk home.  My hip was fine and my lungs held out until almost there.  I peeled into the bakery for some bread and that gave me a little rest stop.  I chatted up the Real Change guy who always asks about my Green Machine and then made it home.

It's kind of nice to know that I can still walk that far, which, in real people's terms is not far at all.  Plus, I may do it again because I forgot about another breakfast place in the same 'hood that I haven't been to in a long time so there may be a lather, rinse, repeat.

But, for now, it's a knit.

Progress!!

When I first got my Medicare Advantage card from Premera, I tried to set up online.  Nothin' doing.  Today, I looked at the calendar...  2 days until it kicks in so I tried again and BAM!  I'm in!!

I discovered that Costco is not an approved pharmacy. Oops.  Walgreens is and, because I'm lazy, I never moved all of my prescriptions over to Costco.  I still have two of my prescriptions there so I added my new insurance to that account and Saturday, when the insurance will be active, I'll refill those two prescriptions (which are two very cheap ones) to test and if that works out fine, which I'm sure it will, then I'll get the expensive stuff moved over.  Nice. I'm glad I don't have to break in a new mail order joint.

And all of that stuff reminded me that Silver Sneakers also kicks in on Saturday.  Silver Sneakers means - according to their website - that I can swim in the pools of the Olympic Gym in Ballard.  They have 2 pools - one salt water which has some lap times and one regular water which has lap swimming 24 hours.  I'm kind of thinking this is too good to be true.  But, the Silver Sneakers website says I can swim there for free by showing them my Silver Sneakers card.  I think I'm going to go find out Saturday morning.

And if all that wasn't good enough news...  I just got a call from my CPA who has finished my taxes.  He called a week or so ago with preliminary info that it looked like I'd get a $600 refund.  His bill is generally $400 so I figure as long as I can cover that, I'm golden.  Today he says with all the info in, my refund will be $1,100!  I'm doing the happy dance here!!  That's way more than half of my new computer.  Whew and Yeah!  My fabulous finance guy is drawing my cash out of low tax investments.  Way back when he and his predecessor were setting up my investments, I'm sure they explained this all to me, probably in excruciating detail.  I had no appreciation then. I sure as hell do now!!

And, if that's not good enough, we're in the top of the 6th and the Mariners are leading 3-0.
