Oct. 7th, 2014
Today is 10% Senior Discount Day at Fred Meyers but I can't think of anything I need/want bad enough to haul my ass over there and save a buck. I think I'll just save all the bucks and not go.
I pulled/stretched/annoyed some muscled in my neck/shoulder that really hurt yesterday. I never know what to do about this kind of thing. I could really feel it - and not in a good way - in the pool. So do I baby it and skip swimming so it will heal and faster or is it like a cold and will just heal when it heals regardles sof what I do? Yesterday it hurt so much that I decided to skip a swim day. Today, however, it seems totally fine. So the swim is on. If I get into the pool and it hurts, I'll get out.
My Mom always made little tableaus of decorative gourds this time of year. They were out from October until they were replaced by Christmas stuff after Thanksgiving. Yesterday, I made a quick run to Grocery Outlet. They had giant bins of beautiful decorative gourds and SNAP! I was a little kid at home. I could almost smell the Madame Rochas perfume my Mom always wore (that we always called Madam Roaches).
My brother sent me a note yesterday suggesting that I check out a book - True Believers by Kurt Andersen. I was floudering in the middle of a Jo Nesbo Harry Hole book so I switched last night and wow. How in the world did I miss this True Believers before? A coming of age story about a woman exactly my age. I got it from the library - audio version. It's an 18 hour book due in 13 days... so I put it on my back up phone which I don't use. I can put it on airplane mode and so still have the book at the end of the 13 days. Yeah for backup hardware.
I now have as many books going as crochet projects... Retirement ADD. It's a thing.
I am sitting on the bed. The quilt is in a lovely soft pile at the end of the bed. The plastic zippered storage bag is on the seat at the end of the bed. The cat is not curled up on the soft, warm quilt. She has snuggled onto the plastic storage bag. "You think you know me, but you don't!"

I just saw the following on Twitter "Stocks suffer one of their worst days in 2014." UGH. I usually check my investments ever day after the market closes. I think I'm going to skip that today. If you need me, I'll be floating down the river of de Nile.

My swim was about 75%. I was doing ok for the first half mile but then I felt my neck/shoulder thing again. It didn't hurt but I did feel it and I don't want it to hurt OR prevent me from swimming so I took a couple of soft laps and then got out. I really do live in dread fear of anything coming between me and my pool.

Since I had spare time, I stopped at Walgreens to see about a flu shot. They have kind of a Tom's shoes deal - you get one and they give one. It ends soon so I figure now was as good a time as any. One reason I kept putting it off was filing out the paperwork - I keep a list of drugs but is it up to date? What stuff will they want to know that I cannot remember... etc. But, I decided to bite the bullet.
They asked me my name and phone number and bam - got all the info they needed right out of the same account I use to order my drugs. All I had to do was check a few boxes and sign! He did try to upsell me a pneumonia shot which I thought was kind of hilarious. And, actually, I'm due but I figure I need to track one thing at a time, thank you. They have a great little 'shot' room they take you in to do the deed and then he gave me a printout and a receipt for the $0 I paid and I was done! Now I know. It's me and Walgreens forever. I may go back for the pneumonia thing next week.
When I got home I logged onto their website and got the exact info about what shot I got and sent it to my doctor. Done.

This lack of spellcheck on LJ in chrome is really annoying. Since I'm on a chromebook, switching browsers isn't an option... I guess I'll switch to ScribeFire for entry writing. It at least tells me when I fall off the spelling rails.

My shades are here!!!
Oct. 7th, 2014 03:50 pmBefore they built the building across the street, my due east view was sun free after 10 am. This part of the northwest is blessed with many many many cloudy mornings so there were many days during the year when I was blissfully sun free - no frying, no glare.
But... now... even on cloudy days, the clouds burn off by afternoon and the afternoon sun comes over my building and bounces off the new building right into my eyes. All year round. Not happy. My current shades do an ok job but they are a bitch to raise so once lowered they usually stay that way.
I ordered new, fancy, remotely controlled, pretty shades. Today I got the call. 'Can I come install them tomorrow at 11?' ARUGH. Out of all the days when I have nothing on the calendar, tomorrow is my once-postponed date with my financial adviser up in Mill Creek. It's at 10:30. No way I can get back here by 11.
Well, he postponed the meeting once (his cold), now it's my turn. Besides, with the major stock market dive today, he'll probably have his hands full answer the phone tomorrow anyway.
So... as I sit here now at 4 pm, I can see the sun moving closer and closer to getting in my eyes. Bring it, sucker!! Your last day!

Stupid and old
Oct. 7th, 2014 05:39 pmI have a sore shoulder/neck. My left shoulder/neck. So when the pharmacist asked me which arm, I said, I don't care and he zero'd in on my left arm. And, since I'm 65 I got the superduper flu shot which, he said, sometimes produces stronger side effects. I just laughed him off. I don't get side effects.
Soooooo now my entire left side hurts and I feel like crap. Good thing I don't have anything I have to do. The way I feel now, I might even skip swimming tomorrow morning. Ugh.
