I made massive progress on my sweater last night. The plan was to finish it but... The pattern calls for knitting the sleeves down to the wrists (most sleeves are knit from wrists up) so I could kind of try them on as I went. And as I got to the end the light bulb went off... Thumb Holes!!! So I just kept going.

I want to do a couple more rows and then I'll be done. I knit both sleeves at the same time so when I'm done, I'm really done and they both match exactly without having to count rows.
Once I get the sleeves attached, I'll be really done. Unless I decide to add to the cowl collar. I'm on the fence about that. I need to finish and get it on and see.
I'm currently watching the clock. I want to get to the pool about 45 mins or so before the aqua exercise class starts at 9. It takes me about 15 minutes from my bedroom to the pool's edge. So I've got about 35 mins until good time to go. My plan is to do laps, then class, then laps.
Then grocery. My crockpot pork was not a fail last night. It wasn't a success by any means but it wasn't a fail. Tonight, I'm trying some chicken. I have all the ingredients except... chicken. So there will be a brief stop at the grocery store and before home.

Big Freakin' News!!! Channel 61
Sep. 17th, 2015 11:24 amIn the beginning, this condo building had a front door camera. When someone came to see you, the would dial your unit number from the directory at the front door and you could see them on your TV when it was turned to channel 20. And buzz them in ... or not.
When I gave up my commute and started working from home in the mid 2000, the Front Door TV Network was my all day entertainment. I saw some amazing and hilarious things. I watched new neighbors move in (and totally judged their furniture and belongings). I watched a body being wheeled out, once. When the fire alarms go off, I could tell what was happening by watching the front door. I could tell when the mail was up by when the mail carrier left. It was handy and oh so entertaining.
And then Comcast turned off their analog signal and the front door went dark. It was a sad, sad, sad day about 3 years ago. But... now... maybe... the camera will return!!! I asked the right question at the right time of the Building Manager Who Aggravates Me No End and cc'd the President of the Home Owners Association Board and she grabbed the flag and ran with it. I just ran into the building manager in the elevator and he in a million confusing words managed to convey that they are getting close and the channel number will be 61. I could not tell by his convoluted conversation when it might be but having a channel number is GREAT progress. I can't wait!
When I got to the pool, my buddy who swims when I does got there at the same time. We planned yesterday to get there early for laps and then try the class together. It was 8:45. We swam and swam and 9 am came. And no class. We swam some more and finally, a woman doing water walking stopped to talk to my friend, Brody, and we learned that 1. the class was canceled and 2. the ONLY way to know was a sign that you could ONLY see as you LEFT the pool. Nicely concealed public information.
So... I just swam a bunch more laps. I knew it was hopeless to try and get home anytime before 9:45/10:00. So I swam until 9:30. When I got out Google said my normally 11 minute ride home was going to be about 45 minutes. So I went to the grocery store. When I got out, it was down to 36 minutes. But by that time I had ice cream so I just got in the traffic line. Turns out there was a wreck at a critical junction that had fucked everything up big time. It's my 'hood' so making massive use of back alleys and short cuts, it only took me about 25 minutes. But, whew.
Honey Garlic Chicken is in the crock pot.

So. I wanted a warm, soft sweater that would hug my neck when needed but not choke me when not (so turtleneck out) and one I could wear something under or not and one that was big but didn't look like I bought the wrong size. But mainly, warm and soft and suitable to wear every day if I wanted.
And, here it is!

It works with thumbs in thumbholes or not. It's very soft and very warm and very comfortable. It's also riddled with errors. If anyone thinks I bought this at a store, they will think I'm the world's worse shopper!
Ravelry Dets
But, I'm very very pleased. (good thing cause that yarn cost a pretty penny!)...
Now... back to the bears!

In the late 90's I started a job that included a bitch of a commute. I survived it with Books on Tape. This was the olden days and those books came on literal tape cassettes. I rented them. They would come in a box 7 or 8 a box. When I was done, I slapped on the label and popped them into the mail and ordered my next one.
Back then, I was devouring contemporary mysteries in tree book form so to keep my brain from exploding in confusion, I listened to classics in the car. I discovered Kate Chopin and devoured everything they had by her. To this day, when I get on a certain stretch of local interstate, I flash back to her plots and characters...
But, these days, except for occasional Kindle/Google Book reads, I'm all Audible.Com all the time. I have favorite authors but also several favorite readers. A good reader can make a blah book interesting or a good book great. Once in a while I hit a not great reader and even more seldom one who's truly horrible, but most are just very excellent at a very difficult job.
More often these days, particularly with non fiction, authors read their own works. Sometimes this works. Ken Jennings does a great job. But, more often it does not. Good writers don't always make good readers. Recently I tried Half Empty by David Rakoff. David's writing is exceptional. But it is complicated and he is not a reader. His words are strung together with perfection and rendered deadly with his reading of them. Sadly.
Today I started Yes, My Accent is Real by Kunal Nayyar who plays Raj on The Big Bang Theory. Kunal is not a great writer by any means but he is a very clever and funny writer and he is a fabulous reader. His timing and inflection (and, yes, accent) and tone make a clever book really really entertaining.
I bought it to listen while swimming because it was only 7 hours and I thought it would be an amusing 7 hours. I've now listened to the first half hour and already I'm sorry it's only 7 hours!
At night I'm listening to the latest Jack Reacher (Lee Child is the author) book read by Dick Hill. Child is one of my favorite authors and Dick Hill is one of my favorite readers.
My ears are certainly getting treated nicely these days!
