The pool was basically mine this morning. It was lovely. Last night on ABC news (I think) they had the obligatory 'get healthy in the New Year' story and had some doctor saying that you need a minimum of 75 minutes of vigorous exercise a week. I honestly don't think of my swimming as vigorous but I do put in more than 420 minutes a week so I think I've got the requirement covered. Google seems to think any lap swimming is vigorous but I think they haven't seen my swimming. The test is how easily you can talk while you are doing this exercise. I honestly can't talk at all... without drowning... I swim because I enjoy it so probably I get some points taken off for motive.

Yesterday I cleaned out the fridge and freezer, took inventory and organized both. I found some precooked roast beef that I ate last night. Blah. Tossed the rest. I found some lox so this morning I stopped by Safeway and got some tomatoes and onions (already had the bagel, cream cheese and capers) and that was breakfast. There is enough of everything to do it again tomorrow.

I figured out how to do the boy doll in the gray suit but do it better so that's today's doll. I'm out out of Scott & Bailey episodes. :( And my TiVo inventory is getting pitifully low. Looks like it's going to be a Netflix/Amazon Prime weekend. But, maybe I'll skip the TV and just listen to my book while I sew.

I check in every day at the gym with my phone. I bring up the badge and beep it against the reader. I noticed the other day that my name had turned from a white background to a pink one. It didn't click.

Today I get a voice mail from a woman at the Ballard LA Fitness (the first one I went to before the one I go to now in West Seattle opened). I had registered my brother as a visitor just in case. She wanted to set up a pre-membership appointment with him. Yeah. no. And then she went on to tell me that my Silver Sneakers had expired 'So do you want to pay for a membership?' Yeah. no. I told her I now go to the West Seattle LA Fitness and I am still a member of Silver Sneakers. Goodbye.

Then I remembered the pink thing. Then I logged onto the Silver Sneakers website which still shows my old insurance and gives me no way to update and does NOT recognize my new insurance anyway. BUT does respond to a forum question saying that if you change insurance and the new one has Silver Sneakers, you don't need a new card or member number or anything, everything will transfer.

So. I'm not worried. The Silver Sneakers deal is a sweet one but the administration of it is circa 1992. They are all marketing and nothing else. Issues and problems take forever to get fixed. Old people things are such a bother. On the up side, they have been around for so long now that everyone is kind of used to them around here anyway and just wave you on in. Plus at this point, if something happened to the Silver Sneakers deal, I'd pay for the gym/pool anyway. I can't not have it.

See this dude's hair?

Yesterday it was a bathrobe that someone left on the free shelf. I imagine this conversation "When are you going to get rid of that old thing? You have the new one now you got for Christmas, you should just toss that ugly POS." "Ok, but it's still good. I'll put it on the free shelf in the garage."

Hair.

I decided to put together a little package that shows my insurance and that they do Silver Sneakers and the bit about no expiration. My new insurance does not have any kind of online log in but I went to print out their page on Silver Sneakers and, it seems, that without mentioning it, they have transitioned to another program that offers no pools. Fuck that! I'm not that happy. This is going to cost me $650 a year. GRRRR

On the other hand, before Medicare, I paid $550 a year to swim in the city pools and that was only 6 days a week on their schedule not mine.

And, I really did not like the other insurance company. I do like this one much better. I'm sorry they don't include my pool, but because I didn't know they didn't and no one checked, I got a month, maybe month and a half free.

There is a guy who has been there since they opened and transitioned some time ago from admin to sales. And has always been nice to me. I think I'm going to see if I can hold off doing anything until I can snag him for a sign up so that he'll get credit for my membership.

Oh well, it's only money and you can't take it with you, etc. etc.
