My home owners association is putting on a new roof and tuck pointing the brick on one side of the building this year. And they are using a special assessment to fund the project. They revealed the numbers last fall. My piece of the action is $6416.50. It's due Feb. 1. In my head, last fall, I rounded up and so since then, I've known I had a $7,000 bill to pay. I just went to pay it and discovered it was not $7000 but actually $6416.50. I feel like I just saved a bundle. Enough to pay to replace the phone that got stolen. Sweet. (And dilutional, I know.)

There were a lot of people swimming early this morning. When I got there, there were 5 people already swimming. All guys. An hour later, as I finished, they had all been replaced and the 5 other people swimming were women. Funny. The water wasn't nearly as horribly warm as it was yesterday so whew.

For the past few nights I've been listening to an audio book - a novel - that was just a struggle. The story was weird and annoying and finally last night I gave up. And started listening to the latest Thomas Perry. I love his stuff. Five minutes in, I feel like I had traded my fuckme stilettos for furry slippers. So good. Why don't my favorite authors write more books???

There's a woman who lives down the hall. We're not buddies. I think our longest conversation was 'good morning.' I'd guess she's in her late 40's early 50's (she has a grown son). She's lived here with her husband for about 6 or 7 years now. She owns a tea/herb/chrystal shop in the neighborhood and does readings of some kind. Her hair used to be purple and she dressed like an Asian teenager (an odd look given her age and that she's rather portly). But now it's white and she wears long white robes and always always has a walking stick that is as long as she is tall. As weird as she is, her husband is an architect who writes commentary pieces for local small papers and dresses like a banker.

Today, in our short elevator ride she tells me, apropos of nothing, that she and her husband are moving to Italy. "Yes, sometime next year, we'll sell the loft and move there. We think."

okdokey. It's comforting to know that even if I tried as hard as I could, I would not be the weirdest person living in this building.

It's no longer freezing cold out. Just chilly which is a nice break but it means I no longer have any excuse not to put away the little pile of stuff by the sliding glass doors. Rather than step outside and put it into the cupboards on the terrace. I've just been piling it up instead. I think I'll go put all that shit away right now.

I think the weather people here are getting pay incentives to predict snow. This has nothing, of course, to do with the amount of anything falling from the sky. It's the only reason I can think of for so many more snow forecasts this year. We have the same amount of snow as in recent years (none) but lots more forecasts.

Whacky doodle. I am not moving to Italy.

I toyed with going to Costco today. I need a new Costco card but, actually, don't need anything else and don't have space for it anyway. When my brother comes, I need to empty out the sewing room closet and a drawer for him as well as move some stuff out of his way. I need to have space to put that shit. The space is where I keep my stash of doll stuffing. So while I really need to order more stuffing - and the price is great right now - I can't because no place to put it. And no place to put any Costco haul either.

So I made extra dolls. I'll be losing nearly a week of sewing and I did warn the adoption lady that next month might be a little light. But maybe I can make up for it after all.
