Counting my electric blessings
Jan. 13th, 2021 09:28 amYesterday about mid day, our power went out. I was eating lunch and reading off my dining table tablet which, of course, just kicked into battery. I tried to think of something that needed immediate attention and came to nothing so kept eating and reading. In about 5 minutes, the juice flowed again and only the microwave and oven wanted their clocks reset. Painless.
But, now I'm learning that last night we had a wind storm that knocked out electricity all over town and most of it is not back on yet. Happily we here in downtown, were left out of that party. Whew. I really like having electricity. I mean really really really like it.
Yesterday I finished going through all the yarn in this house and putting it in its place or in the donation bin. Done. I have three projects in progress. And I'm hope hope hoping I can keep it to three and not start another one until I finish one. That's the goal.
That said, I am all caught up on chores. The last of the big bills have been paid and cleared. The next one is in mid February and I'm ready. I spend a lot of time focused on my finances because 1. I have the time and 2. I spent most of my 70+ years assuming I would be a bag lady living on the streets when I got this age and I still have incentive to make sure that does not happen. So my finances have become my hobby.
My other hobby is this darned cat. A while back,
dtomdtom suggested that I put food in Biggie's ping pong ball puzzle box. His regular "food bowl" is actually a puzzle tree. He has to paw out the kibble so initially I thought putting food in the puzzle toy was mean but... the other night, he was bugging me so I got one treat and tossed it into the box. Problem solved! He did get it out but it wasn't easy. Since then, we've done it a few times. I missed the whole corn hole craze but now I have my own going. I've actually only missed once. Go me!
His fur is slowly growing back from his surgery and is now at the stage where it looks like he went to a groomer who had a funky sense of humor. I worry constantly about his swallowing something else lethal but I'm really clueless how to prevent it. He's very inventive and creative and constantly on the prowl for things to get him into trouble.
I have no reason to leave the condo today. So it will be crochet and TV. Oh, I did find a new book - White Ivy by Susie Yang. I'm 1.5 hours in and so far it's a nice read.
Bonus of Biggie watching the sunrise.
