Day 1 of the Frypocolypse
Jun. 26th, 2021 09:27 amIt is not yet 9 am and it is 80 degrees out (which is above the average high for the day) and the sun is not even full blast yet and still that hot. I saw on instagram that several local businesses - my bagel place and a pizza place not far from here, for example are closing early over the next 3 days or just not opening at all.
I was going to slip out this morning while it was still 'cool?' and grab a bagel sandwich for later. I just hopped onto their website to order and see they have changed from closed early to just, flat closed until at least Tuesday. Oh well.
There is a teeny tiny 4,000 year old cafe (mainly breakfast) on the edge of downtown. It has exceptional food and in non-pandemic times is always wrapped by a line of people waiting to get in. They are still closed for indoor dining but do have takeaway and delivery these days. But, I just saw on Twitter that outside the cafe, they have set up bins of ice, cold towels and drinks with signs that say 'free to those in need.' I love Glo's so much. I rarely go because of the lines but I'm going to go stand in one when they open.
I had intended to amuse myself with a baseball game this morning but it looks like rain in Chicago is going to put the kibosh on that.
Oh well, they haven't called it off yet. I think I'll take a load of recycling down to the dumpsters while it's still not as hot as it's going to be. I have plenty to amuse myself up here in the cool. The sun is now out full blast and even Biggie has come inside. It's going to be a long next few days.
