This morning I got on the treadmill as usual and after a few minutes clearly something was hinky with my left foot. I kept on but it was feeling really weird and on the edge of hurt and I thought maybe I should see if maybe there was a rock? or something there so I stopped.

I treadmill in sandals with memory foam. They are old and comfy. So I stopped and took off my left sandal and discovered it was really bloody as were the toes on my left foot. I could not even tell where it was coming from. But the memory foam on the sandal had clearly developed fatal alzheimer's. The divots my toes made were craters. There was too much blood to see what was actually causing the blood from the shoe. I hobbled into the bathroom and wiped at the foot until I could finally see the tiniest little cut. Man, that's some good blood flow out of that tiny thing.

I washed it all up and abandoned the treadmill for the day. Skipping a day is not going to kill me and I sure don't want to aggravate that tiny cut into something not at all tiny. Plus I needed it to stop bleeding. The sandals got a proper burial tossed into the trash - RIP. Happily I have another pair just like them that I've been saving for just this day.

Yesterday I got my tv/internet bill. It had inexplicably jumped from a way too much $230 to a ohmyfuckinggodwhatthehell $280. $80 of that is baseball. Ridiculous but I decided that it's what I want and I was not going to stress over it every month like last year. That plan is working so I decided not to stress over this. It is what it is. BUT, also, I sent an email to Katie, my contact at the company, asking her, nicely, WTF??? and is there anything we can do about it.

This morning she replied that I had come out of a couple of special deals which caused the increase and she found a couple more so she would apply the fixes and the bill would be only $5 more than last month. Whew. Comcast would be a better deal for me in a lot of ways and particularly for the first year but they do not have Katie. So I'll stick with Wave. I'm very happy to have a $5 increase. Way to work me, Wave!!

Yesterday afternoon I got baking ants in my pants. So I went to Goodwill. I got two different kinds of pastry dough blenders. I couldn't decide which and they were $.75 each. I got two 6" pans. They don't exactly match and one is really a small casserole dish but, better than what I had. I also picked up some measuring cups that are a little different than mine. And... a cake plate! A grand total of $15. I was chuffed as they say across the pond.

This morning I think I'll go out and get a few grocery store supplies.

The baseball game is on at 1. The horrible announcer is on radio for this series which is great. It means I can watch it all on TV and start late and skip through ads. On the downside, we are play Houston and they are great and if last night was any indication, we are going to be shredded by the last game on Sunday. oh well. If we don't make the playoffs, at least I'll save money on my cable bill sooner.

The Seahawks are playing a game - exhibition or something - at their stadium tonight. Full crowd. No masks required. No vaccine required. (The mask mandate does not go into effect until Monday. But, I suspect, the virus ain't going to sit around and wait til Monday. But, I am not a scientist.) Regardless of the weather, I will be closing my door and turning on the air conditioning in hopes of drowning out the drunk screamers. I just hope they don't leave a mess but I know they will.

The first try is supposed to have issues, right? Well, let us count the issues with my first little white cake!

1. The sifter I bought from Amazon was cheap but still NOT worth the price. That thing couldn't sift anything. It gets returned I don't care if it has flour in it!

2. The recipe called for one 6" pan. Apparently either my definition of one or of 6" differs from the author's cause Yikes. Kinda messy.

3. BUT, the end result wasn't horrible, actually. It did not come out of the pan completely nicely but...

4. Note the line around the edge? How dangerous is it to eat Sharpey?? ha! I used one to trace around the pan to cut the parchment paper. Apparently my line transferred to the cake!

5. I wanted a white cake and this cake is not white. After some Googling I realize my error, Google thinks vanilla, yellow and white cakes are all the same thing. They are not. I had googled white cake and got a recipe for vanilla cake which turns out to be yellow. NOT what I wanted. I'm smarter now and have two white cake recipes to try.

6. I set the icing out to get to room temperature. I think I didn't wait long enough. So then I put it into the mixer and added a little cream. Too much, actually, ha! A little runny. But still fabulous tasting icing.

Not horrible tasting. But not good enough to waste the calories on more. I'll make a white cake next time.

And cookies. I want iced cookies and I think I found a good recipe for them. Not today but soon.

Meanwhile, before the Seahawkians took over the neighborhood, I made yet another trip to Goodwill. I got a nice, top quality sifter for $4. And some canisters for my dry goods and some cookie cutters!

This morning, I did go up to the little Red Apple Market on Beacon Hill and turns out their baking inventory is Superior!! They have all manner of different flours and a bunch of other goodies to bake with. And they had about 6 different kinds and sizes of buttermilk, plus powdered buttermilk! So now I know where to get my stuff.

But now I think I'll clean up the kitchen and focus on this ballgame which we have not lost yet.
