why would you NOT wear a cup????

One of our best (although not brightest) Mariners is out now with a torn testicle from not wearing a cup. Why in the hell would a professional baseball player not wear a cup????

I seriously do not understand. Is a cup uncomfortable? Do not all guys want to protect their guys no matter what?

I am baffled.

Yes, cups are damned uncomfortable. At least to me. But I'm not playing pro sports either. Were I in a situation where I could be struck by flying objects at high speed, or they were getting banged around from lots of running, etc, cup would be in place. Words alone here cannot express how painful injuries in that area can be...I'm cringing just from thinking about your baseball player.

Well, thanks for the answer. It's what I thought. I am just astounded and mystified. Apparently the tear is to one testicle. I want to rip the other one. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Stupid. We get half a chance to have a winning season and are struck down by stupidity.

Rugby is the national sport here in NZ and they dont use cups. They fall out with all the running and tackling I guess.

An All Balck Captain in the early 90s actually had his scrotum torn and played on with one testicle hanging out - which explains a lot about the average rugby player . ;-)

Good point. I am actually not shocked about rugby players. But, really, compared to rugby players - particularly kiwi rugby players - these guys over here are having tea parties in all sports and particularly baseball.

Yeah, no shit. The Yankees are having their way with us, too. UGH. We're now in the 7th inning with no outs and the bases full of Yankees. BLECH.

I'm spending the game checking out all the crotches taking a cup inventory. It's the only thing interesting in the whole game.

It was funny/interesting to see who said what here.

Testicles is, apparently, a hard word for some reporters. The ones on Twitter admitted the whole story was a problem for them. I think there was a bit too much identifying with the plight going on.

The only reporter I heard who actually used the word was a female reporter who covers the Mariners for Fox Sports. And her only mention was "The words testicles and tear are never ones you want to hear together..." as an intro to interviewing the team manager.

I always wear a cup for any sports where there's a risk to my balls, even if it is uncomfortable. Any guy who doesn't is nuts!
