Today's Basket
Aug. 20th, 2009 08:06 am Ok, backward wing has been ripped off and frontwards wing started... grrrr. I used to embroider quite cute (edited, thanks
geordie) sayings (yeah, bite me) but quit when I once misspelled a word in the middle of a piece. Wonder if embroiderers use spell check these days.

Date: 2009-08-20 04:04 pm (UTC)Mistakes in hard to fix places are not fun: When my friend Keith Woollvin left my old company, Hunting Engineering, one of our mutual friends, Carl Edwin, got his leaving present, a pewter tankard, engraved with his name... "Keith Woolvin". Presented with all due ceremony it was greeted with a laugh and "two 'l's mate". Poor Carl looked like he just wanted the floor to swallow him.

Date: 2009-08-20 04:12 pm (UTC)My friend, Jim, was a weekend woodworker. It drove him absolutely nuts that I could just rip out my knitting mistakes and redo them with no penalty. And yet, one teensy booboo in his wood project and he was screwed.

Date: 2009-08-20 04:25 pm (UTC)My mother missed a cable out of an Aran sweater and didn't notice until she got to the shoulders. She spent 15 minutes going from "nobody will notice" to "any time I see this all I will notice is the error" then pulled out a week of work. Maybe not 40 hours, but all she had done in the last week. Then she cast on and started again.
I threw away six months of someone else's hardware and software before :D Replaced it with a $200 serial card and a few reads, writes, QIOWs and ASTs (Queued IO Wait, Asynchronous System Traps in VAX/VMS) which I rewrote one weekend.
