I put up my first webcam because I got one and figured out how to do it. That was oh so many years ago. Then Daddy died and Mom found the internet and the webcam and stayed glued to it. Then she wanted to see more, so I added a second. Then she wanted to see what I was watching on TV so I added a third. I think at one time I had four going.

She checked religiously and constantly. She let me know if my hair needed a comb or if I was slouching. She watched my house cleaner clean. She loved it.

She also reported immediately if one of the cams was down. When she died, I lost my quality assurance resource.

I keep the cam going because I can and I like it and, I, too, use it to see if Amira made it to clean when I'm not here. Over the years, I've migrated to some pretty ones. The one I'm using now is the Hue. It looks pretty on my desk.

I really have no idea how many people ever look at it - I could look up page hits if I ever remembered to - but I don't care. I doubt the crowd is very much bigger than very small. But today I got an email from someone I've never (to my knowledge) met or corresponded with or heard of. The address is non-revealing except that it is from Austria.

The sender let me know that the cam had been down for a while. Ooops! I rebooted that machine yesterday? Day before? And forgot to start up the cam.

I have no idea how the sender found my cam or why - I don't think it was via this journal - but I love that someone is enjoying the view enough to miss it when it's gone. And Betty loves it, too. She's posing right this minute. (Well, posing - napping, whatever.)

My new friend has agreed not to wait so long before letting me know there's a break in the action. So, I got frisky and set up the other Hue (I picked up these pretties on Woot - a package of two). I had it on the kitchen yesterday so I could watch Chef Tom. I didn't have it hooked up to a page but I do now.

How about mounting a webcam on Betty and then people can see what she is looking at?

You remember of course the time that [livejournal.com profile] fj and I threw a party that you attended by webcam (you were informed of it later on). We streamed one of your cams to our television so that you could join us.

I like to check in every now and then and see "What is Susan doing"? Of course, I often forget the time change from Georgia to Seattle so sometimes it's still dark, but tell people about great things I love on the internet I love to show them proof of the "Cool lady who knits things and does fun stuff and takes pictures and goes on local adventures."
