Starting in the Fall, NBC will have its own version of Coupling. Thursdays, just before ER.From my morning paper:

"Coupling." Steven Moffat's hit Britcom gets Americanized and moved to Chicago. It follows six thirtysomethings as they attempt to negotiate dating and, uh, mating within their group. Hopefully the original show's racy sex appeal was imported along with the concept. (It airs on cable's BBC America.) Moffat wrote the pilot. Rena Sofer, Colin Ferguson, Sonya Walger, Jay Harrington, Lindsay Price and Christopher Moynihan star.

Last night I was your quentissential TV loser. I watched last Saturday's District where they buried Ella Farmer. Ella was played by Lynne Thigpen who dropped dead several weeks ago. Lynne had always been a favorite of mine and was the only reason I ever watched the District. So last night I watched and sobbed my way through the whole thing. And I mean that literally. It was pitiful.

Then I watched a Coupling that I had on Tivo. It's the one where Jeff meets Julia and gets a surprise 30th birthday party. Usually this show cracks me up, but last night I was in hysterics and, you guessed it, laughing until I cried.

LOOOOOOSER.

I have yet to find this show...but then again, I haven't had much tv time lately. Is it on a certain night or whenever you can catch it?

I keep asking WHY WHY WHY??? Why copy a perfectly good show, one that's even in English??? It was done with Cracker - and what a mistake that was - and now with Coupling.

I know the answer. Money. That and a lack of imagination. But it seems that buying reruns of the original would be a hell of a lot cheaper and would be every bit as much a hit on non-BBC channels.

Obviously I'm a loser too, if this is how it's defined. My knowing when these shows run and actually watching them.

I've seen fragments of Coupling. I would say: don't bet on it. Too hot for US network execs.

Interesting. I believe that that's a different cast than was used in the original NBC pilot. But I love Rena Sofer, so having her on is a good thing.

And I personally think it'll be different than the BBC version, but I don't look at that as a bad thing. Hopefully it will be as good, and we'll always have the Brit version anyway.
