There is hope

kjaz, who will from now until forever be known as MY HERO, sent me a link to USPS Form 1509 - Sender's Application For Recall of Mail. Which I filled out and took to my local (and very tiny) post office branch. The clerk there was very sympathetic but said she had no clue what to do and had no supervisor there so she called on and gave the phone to me. He was so calm and wonderful and gave me a phone number to call.

I came home and called that number and got Paul who was just as nice as he could be. He totally grasped the problem and took my name and number and said he'd call back in 15 minutes. He called in 10 and gave me the name of the driver who will make that 3:15 pickup. He said that the driver wouldn't be in until noon and he, Paul, would be gone by then so he would leave a note from the guy who was Paul on the next shift explaining everything. That guy will get with the driver and they will call me to confirm that I will meet them at the box at 3:15 (the pick up time).

So I'm thinking there might just be a clean rescue here. It is so hard to type with fingers crossed.

OMG so that little form has ruined so many afterschool specials and Friends' episodes. I think there was one of Seinfeld too. There's always the one where the nasty letter to the boss gets sent. Or the profession of love to the captain of the cheerleading team. All they needed was a FORM?!?

I know you aren't there now to read this but your hero crown get's another jewel. In fact, I had not gotten a call back like Paul said I would. So at 1:30 I called that number back and got the next guy who was as nice and as helpful. He even gave me more info - driver cannot pick up early but can pick up late. I should be there with form and ID. (Hope my id and Ann's post it will work.) and I said 'so that's all I need to do'. 'Yep, you'll need to help him identify the pieces but you should be good.'

Feeling more and more hopeful...
