I am so over my Treo Pro and Windows Mobile, for that matter. Google has exactly 1 year to get a spectacular phone and OS ready for me and they had better get the fuck with the program.

Today I reset the damn thing back to factory settings and started from scratch with the bare minimum. At least, now, if they battery starts draining out like a sieve again, I can more easily troubleshoot. GRRR.

I spent most of the day fucking around with the phone and waiting for Amira. I do love her cleaning but I have taught her now that it's fine with me for her to say she will be here and then not show and it is not fine. I was being nice and trying to be understanding and sympathetic. I know that the money she makes here is important to her so if she can't make it at the appointed time, once or twice, I was ok with moving the time so I could get a clean house and she could get paid.

But, I'm done. If she can't make it, then we just skip and wait until next time. Last time she called and asked if she could come Saturday instead and I said fine. On Saturday she came and dropped off a card and gift (a re-gift, obviously) and asked if she could come Sunday, I said fine. Never heard a word. On Tuesday she called and asked if she could come Today. I said 'but Amira, that's Christmas Eve, are you sure you want to come Christmas Eve?' Oh yes, she assured me - early 10:30 in the morning.

It's 3 pm and I haven't heard another word. She might still show up today. If so, I'll tell her. If not, I have an email ready to go. No more Ms. Sympathy here. I'm done. Ho Ho Ho.

Speaking as an employee of a company not uninvolved in the Droid... Android is the o/s and application bundle that makes the phone what it is. Droid is the Motorola implementation of that, probably fucked with by Verizon who seem to have a bunch of half whit software people, judging by how very very poorly their parental controls work. Google are bringing out their own Android phones soon, and maybe their own phone service if I heard right. I don't like that Verizon doesn't allow me to swap phones, on a whim, without having to buy it from themm, or at least geting them to swap it over.

I have a few friends who've gotten the Droid from Verizon Wireless, and it sounds as though VZW has meddled far less with this phone than with most. I suspect Google came to them and said "If you want in, we're doing it our way," and having lost out on the iPhone, Verizon Wireless caved.

Everyone seems happy with the Droid, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the rumoured Nexus One, Google's own phone that we're getting glimpses of this week. It's manufactured by HTC, a company that's made a couple of the early Android (Google OS) phones, to Google's spec instead of a carrier's. Having played with the early Android gear, I'm very optimistic that it's getting mature fast and will be awesome before long.

Of course, I do love the iPhone. It works well for me and integrates well with what I need to do. I try not to fear technology, but to make it fear me, instead. ;-)

Yes, a few of our folks bought them and we have some for testing, they do seem pretty good. But I am happy to wait and see what people think in six months.
