Preparing for tragedy
Feb. 17th, 2010 09:05 amLast night - sometime in the early evening, the Front Door TV Network went down. And it was clear that it would not be back until building manager, Scott, got in his office and giggled the cable box.
I was watching Netflix on the PC (because the fucking TiVo/Netflix connection would not work again) and kept reflexively looking at the TV for Front Door news and getting none.
It was the worse kind of withdrawal and now I'm really worried. The signal it uses is analog. The hour glass is running out of sand on analog cable. I know it. And, when it does, I'll be fucked. The cost of installing Front Door TV Network is prohibitive and really, no one in this building wants it but me. So when Comcast pulls the plug, I'm done.
I will no longer know what kind of furniture and belongings new owners are moving in. I won't know when anyone is getting a new appliance. I won't be able to watch the drunks coming and going on Seahawks Sundays. I won't be able to mock the fools who can't figure out the buzz-in system. I'll be totally isolated.
I need to come up with a plan to deal. Based on the rate with which Comcast has moved on deleting analog so far, I think I'm safe for a while but still, I'd better be ready.
But, Scott got in early and giggled for me and for today anyway, I'm good...
