Oh they never used the door anyway. I tried it when I first got it and it got voted down with a 100% majority of the four legged constituancy.

Their litter box is in the bedroom closet. They have one on the terrace, too - they can use it when the door is open. They are, right now, diggin' the cool.

We had a doggie door installed that way. Lucky for me, the dog loves his door. This one is in brick.
Stay cool. Having been to Seattle a few times, I don't associate A/C and Seattle. I never lived there though. If it is above 75, it is too hot. Dry, wet, heat is heat. Stay cool!
