Last weekend, I was watching Melissa de-whatshername on Food Network. She chopped up the green tops of some onions and then said that she was going to put the white ends in some water because, in a few days, they would grow some new greens.

WHAT????

So, when Chef Tom came on Monday, he had green onions and I told him the story and he said...

WHAT????

We tried it and, well, it is kind of true!! The onions in this cup had no green on them last Monday. And today, there's enough for salad anyway. Wild.

Well, I'll be damned - I'll have to give that a whirl.

I think it's a conspiracy by grocers to keep you buying more onions that more people don't know this (I didn't!). Shall have to try it.

I made a salad yesterday and had some spring onions for it and I HAD to put the ends in water! Already today there is nearly a half inch of new growth.

And here I thought I was a terrible gardener.
