Never ever ever go to Costco in December - even the beginning of December. Opt instead for root canal or knee capping or water torture.

And that whole Clementine rumor??? Totally false.

But, the day is saved by a Christmas present. My friend Jeanie - whom I've known now for nearly 10 years via email and never met - sent me an Unbelievable Apple!!! I've always wanted one and never had one and now I do and I am going to slice that sucker and give it a taste right this minute!!!!

What I love for Christmas is Italians like to give these boxed christmas cakes called "Panettone". They're vacuum sealed and have a shelf life of about 900 years. But they're amazingly fresh and moist when you open the box. They also come with this packaged powdered sugar which you dump on top of the cake and it's so friggen good.

Ok, that is too strange... I saw these things for the very first time today at Costco in the very aisle where the Clementines were supposed to be!!!

I remember thinking that that was strange shape for a fruit cake. Wild.

Costco, 4th Ave S. Either go early or be prepared for chaos or probably both. Cakes are in the back just before the produce...

I think I might pick up a couple! There's a real Italian grocer near my work ing DT Bellevue. And I think the World Market/CostPlus has some as well.

Duh!! I had that info in the entry and somehow managed to edit it all out. So sorry I made you ask!

Williams-Sonoma makes them and ships them out. They are really really good apples to start with - besides being bigger than Cleveland. And then they have a thick layer of carmel which is chewy and on top of that a thin layer of dark chocolate and the nuts. They would make a great dessert for a dinner party of 4 or even six - one apple would, I mean.

I sliced it in half and then in a couple of smaller sections. Just delicious.
