Here she is, in all her glory! [livejournal.com profile] dlanor seemed a bit worried yesterday that I might have over-tidied. See, it's still a mess of wires and lamps and geegaws and things so he was worrying needlessly.

Our offices are in what used to be an Italian restaurant. You can see the bar just beyond my cubicle wall. The glasses are still hanging there and there is still some booze there. No ice, though, and the olives are all gone along with that really cute bartender.

Wow. That's like going back to the dot.com boom days when people set up office in any space available.

I loved how Seattle was transformed within like the space of a year. Pioneer Square, Pike's Place, Belltown... these used to be low rent districts with lots of cheap studio apartments for artists and musicians trying to make the Seattle scene. Then the dot.coms moved in. Suddenly all these engineers were like "I'm too cool to live in a condo in Bellevue, I'm an artist and I want to live with my kind!" Eventually all these engineers pretending to be artists found they were only living next to other engineers pretending to be artists. The real artists could no longer afford the rents.

Wonderful description about the previous owners of the Italian restaurant. There are people that seem to get into the restaurant biz with no clue how to run a restaurant. It's like just some fantasy of theirs and they have more money than sense.
