Pam Mackenzie, in working with the teddy bear pattern thought they should have hip joints so they could sit. I never thought about it and my bears never complained about having to stand but I thought, what the heck... So this guy has a working bum!

She also noted that less stuffing makes a squishier and, therefore perhaps, a more desirable bear. Using as much stuffing as possible is a little easier because you know when to stop - less stuffing takes more judgement - its it too much? is it too little? Do the arms match? But, using less stuffing also makes my stuffing stash last longer.... This guy is stuffed less.

Some observations on making toys that sit.

My daughter has this (http://www.kohls.com/upgrade/webstore/product_page.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524892584472&pfx=pfx_shopcompare&cid=shopping3&mr:trackingCode=B3A2D9E5-5758-DF11-BAA3-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA) Buzz Lightyear and I noticed that he's an excellent sitter without hip joints. His body is round and fat and fairly firmly stuffed. The legs are attached at the front of the cylinder of his body and are very loosely stuffed. Thought you might be interested in another approach.
