Last week the internets were abuzz with of the long awaited Android update for my EVO phone. An oddly worded press release from Sprint gave many to believe the update could be available as early as last Friday afternoon.

On an Android phone, you get updates/upgrades over the air. They will come to you and you get a notice that one is ready. OR you can go to Settings>System Updates>HTC software update and click on Check Now. If you are like me, every single one of the fifty million times you've done this since Friday afternoon, it has said: Your phone is up to date - There are no updates available for your phone.

I have now hit this sequence so many times, I really do expect the message to change to something like: Look bitch, how many fucking times do I have to tell you??!! That's it. You are going to the back of the line. Maybe that will teach you some patience!!

So I vow to not check again for at least an hour and go to the UPS site where my delivery (The Final Shoe Order - at least for this round - From Zappos) and hit refresh. Generally the UPS guy gets here a little after noon. It is 3:15 and the SOB is not here yet!!!

I don't need instant gratification but seriously, I do need eventual gratification and I need it now!

We in the mobile industry are in general against starting any customer-facing dialog with "Look bitch" at any point in the experience.

It generally leads to bad outcomes.

I've begun manually checking for the update as well now. :-\ You've been a bad influence on me. hahaha :-D

I should probably wait until I'm safely in Chicago, but with two phones I'm not terribly worried if first-adopter gets me a partially bricked phone.

Apparently Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) will do away with third-party UIs. That sounds good to me.

Umm... oops? That one will take even longer to get out. They tentatively expect it to be released to developers around October, in time to be released to the public for Christmas. The downside is the minimum hardware specifications is expected to be 1GHz and 512MBs. :-\
