Leftover bits
Jun. 10th, 2003 07:15 pmUnder the topic of duh...
My main email address is with a domain name that is controled by my ISP. In my hunt for a better spam solution, I went to their website to see what they had to say. They had to say that by default, they set up email for *any*. Which means I get email at me@susandennis.com (which is the one I use most often) but I also get the mail for fuckyou@susandennis.com or anyother thing under the sun. Perfect fodder for spammers.
I sent them a note this morning and asked them to bounce all email except to three specific addresses (one for books, one for me and one for ebay). They did, about 10 a.m. Ordinarily, I would have seen about 200-300 spams since then. I just checked and there are 11!!!!!!!! I can easily manage 11. I cannot believe I have been torturing myself all this time. Duh doesn't even cover it.
And on the appraisal. She asked me how I felt about working there. She said that realizing no place is perfect, she would hope that the good/bad balance was at least 80/20 or maybe even 90/10. I thought that was a really interesting way of breaching that subject (plus she got big points for even asking the question). I told her that most days it was way closer to 70/30 and some days it was 60/40. What the company does well, it does really well in terms of workplace. But, it does a whole lot not so well if you are on the bottom of the totem pole where I am.
Mainly, I was just so impressed with her asking the question and providing the clear communication vehicle for answering.
