Las Vegas

We walked today... a lot... a whole lot. Kind of a shock to this body which usually spends the days comfortably seated on its ample ass.

But it was great. So great. So amazing. We got there before the doors opened and walked around non-stop except for a 15 minute hot dog break until a little after 2 when we walked back to the monorail and then back to our room (which ain't no small journey either). The brothers who own Friendly Computers (my brother's store is a FC franchise) came and picked us up and took us out to dinner. It was very kind of them and they were enthusiastic hosts as were their wives. A nice treat and some exceptional Italian food.

The show itself is just really wild. Everything from tiny booths staffed by non-Englishish speaking Asians selling small bits and pieces of stuff to giant 1,000 square feet setups like Samsung which had about a hundred TV monitors hung on the wall in addition to all their other stuff.

It's just nearly incomprehensible how many people are there. All shapes and sizes. Lots of booth babes and Ford even had a couple of really really really nice looking eye candy of the male persuasion clearly hired for their eye candiness.

And they had gadgets for everyone...

Gadgets for everyone

Tomorrow we'll go back and do more of the same. I suspect, given our very best shot, we will have maybe seen about 10-20% of the whole show. It's just so massive.

Had I spent a lot of time and effort and research into the best hotel for the stay, I would have picked the MGM Grand for a lot of reasons. As it happens, I kinda threw my spitball on the wall and picked it. Lucky pick for sure.
It's now 9:13. Good night.

OK, I'm trying to figure out where they're holding CES without looking it up from your descriptions and other little bits I've seen.

Since you were on the monorail and there was a post-CES happy hour at the Cosmopolitan... I am guessing, Vdara or Aria?

Oh, duh - given that it's the largest shindig of it's kind, of course it's in multiple buildings!

any good giveaways?

When I was last in Las Vegas (fall of 1994, with a bunch of other mostly GLBT folk), a group of us had drinks at the then brand-new MGM Grand. My recollection was that it was over-the-top even for Vegas, although I suspect it's been eclipsed by newer places since then. I can see that it might be a nice place to stay (within the parameters of its being in Las Vegas).

I have no problem walking and walking, but a few days at a trade show and I'm done. The time I was at WWDC in San Francisco for a week, just a few days after literally walking 100 miles in France, was ridiculous. Thank goodness for Birkenstocks! And in your case, thank goodness for your regular walks at least part-way to or from brunch.

Meantime, if you and your brother are both roaming the floor at CES, who's on the webcams?!
