I got it set up and turned it on and went through about half of the setup and then it turned itself off. So I turned it back on and tried some other stuff and then went back to finish the setup and it turned itself off. So I turned it back on and waited... 10 seconds before I got sound and then 3 seconds and it was off again. Lather, rinse, repeat same results over and over again.

So... I called Amazon and I got this idiot who took a bad experience and made it worse. He asked in a most accusatory tone, 'did it work when the delivery driver turned it on?' I explained that the driver had not turned it on, that he had said Amazon would not let him because it was too cold but that if there was an issue when I turned it on, it would be replaced immediately. The Amazon guy pretty much spewed all over the driver and his company and assured me everything the driver told me was wrong. 'do you want to keep it or replace it or get your money back?' I told him I wanted it replaced immediately. He told me January 27 and they would call with a delivery window.

I called Pilot (the delivery people) who assured me that Amazon did instruct them not to turn on the TV but that immediate replacement was to call Amazon and have them replace it. So I have to have this big honkin' thing in my living room for another week and a half and try again?? I don't think so.

I called Amazon back and got a different person - Ashley - and explained that I was now about 2 miles passed very very pissed and I wanted this thing out of my house immediately and if they could not get a replacement here in a reasonable amount of time, I wanted my money back. She was at least sympathetic and helpful and pretended that she cared which I appreciated. But, apparently, there is no way to get a replacement in a reasonable amount of time. She also told me how to get a refund on the extra warranty I bought. And she gave me a $30 Amazon gift credit (acknowledging that it was a very small amount against a really big problem).

Ann and Ron came over to see the new TV so I had them help me move it to the side. The old one is now back and all set up and I'm going to save that money for another trip to Las Vegas some day.

If this current TV breaks, I'll replace it but maybe with the same size I have now... Or with Costco.com or ... I don't know. I'm going to Scalett O'Hara that decision for today.

Sorry to hear that. We always seem to get things that don't work but I'm not as good at you at getting it sorted out .

Yikes! I see this from time to time, but on prototype and pre-production units. No on Vizio, though. One thing I can assure you is it was *not* caused by turning it on too soon. If I wanted to go all psychic hotline on you, I'd say it was channeling your old machine.

Might be worth trying it again when it has stood over night, but I wouldn't be saying that if I had sold it to you. I mean it's really just Dead on Arrival, but emotionally I always feel like giving something another chance, even though it almost never works.

Infant mortality sucks.

I feel apologetic because mine worked.

No, I went for Samsung because they were the cheapest that got top reviews when I was buying. I didn't say it was reasonable or sensible guilt.

hrm.

when i had my amazon tv delivered (a very long time ago) they didn't turn it on either. they didn't unpack it either, although they were supposed to, so i called amazon back and told them to send the guy back to do what he was supposed to ... and he did.

but, this was a few years ago.
