In case I missed the point I was not even really trying to make in my previous posts....

A friend who lives in San Diego but has a condo down the hall popped in unannounced about 5:30 and proceeded to stay until 7 p.m. when I finally told her I had to take the trash down before the ballgame. She had dinner reservations at 8 so she would have hung around until then, I'm sure.

When did she think I was going to eat dinner? When someone is sitting in your living room at the end of the day and you offer neither food or drink or even look like you might and spend most of the time standing up leaning against the counter, isn't that a clue?

Here I was earlier fretting about being mean and rude to people - apparently, I'm not quite as mean and rude as I need to be.

I can say this - never, not once, has any of my LJ friends ever kept me from dinner, stayed too long uninvited, or even popped in unannounced. You guys rock.

I did not take the garbage down... my housecleaner is coming tomorrow.... Yahoo!

I don't have to clean because my LJ friends are dropping by. I don't have to get dressed for my LJ friends. My LJ friends don't bring over their small children, who will terrorize my cats and attempt to wreak havoc on my doll collection. :-)

I'm very good friends with my neighbor-lady next door. She's 96 and a hoot. (another story for another post)
But, with the exception of the Northridge Earthquake, for the past 10 years,...neither of us has knocked on the other's door without a phone call first. It's just wrong. Now, this certainly does not include visiting outside if one of us is already out and the other sees that, and goes to visit.

We've spent most of the major holidays either cooking together, or going out for a fun meal, but we wouldn't just barge in and stay for an hour and a half uninvited.

Unannounced? How rude! I grew up in southern California where folks, even family, CALLED before "dropping by". When I moved to southern Idaho, I was seen, by some in that rural setting, as "stand-offish" because I greeted uninvited guests at the door and they weren't invited in! If common good manners made me "snooty", I could live with that.

I wouldn't think of popping in on anyone and I expect the courtesy to be returned. If that makes me mean 'n' rude, so be it!

"Drop-ins" are one of my pet peeves. If you wind up having to politely blow them off, or just have to even get a little rude, they're asking for it in the first place.

AND! I will never come over without calling first. My best friend lives 5 blocks away and we see each other maybe once a week and she never ever comes over without calling but is there if I need her.

I am getting old and turning into a hermit!! I like my alone time. Thank God hubby goes to bed early and I don't!
