Making progress
Mar. 5th, 2011 03:01 pmWell, I have nearly everything back that I expected to and am at least able to get back to work. I have one ugly ass bc tool that is not having any install. I knew it was going to hate the 64 bit operating system but I also know there is a work around so I just documented the crap out of the non-install and sent it to the guy who knows the trick.
There are a couple of more things yet to be fixed back... The Toshiba bloatware also gave me a nice wireless on/off switch and a lovely trackpad on/off switch and I'm finding that I really like having both. Of course their website offers no clue how to get them back but they have a better than usual forum (at least I was able to get some other answers pretty quickly) so I left a little love note question there.
I have been booted off the corporate network a couple of times and that worries me a bit but I'm choosing to believe that it is just tired of computing for now.
I had Mozy set up on the work computer and I have to say that I am VERY impressed with their restore situation. Instructions are clear as a bell, options are plentiful and very reasonable and easy. On its own, it's impressive but compared to Carbonite's restore situation, it's beyond amazing. Carbonite was clunky and confusing and required an email for more info and then had a couple of options none of which really suited me one bit.
I did not want to restore everything - about half, actually. Mozy provides me with an easy way to pick and download (in bulk or individually). Plus, I LOVE their option to dump it all to DVD and mail it to me. I will likely never use that option but I LOVE that it is a possibility.
And so, the Reinstall Saga of 2011 winds down. Yeah.
In other news, I'm doing laundry. The kitchen is cleaned up. The Mariners just won their Spring Training game. All is good here. I think I'll just watch my Newflix DVD and knit a bit.
