I love love love my condo and my neighborhood. It has only two flaws. One is The Tree That I Hate. But, the other is that you can't hear the rain. I'm four stories up - too far to hear it land on the sidewalk. The ceiling is too thick to hear it land on the patio above my living room.

I love hearing rain. My bedroom radio has a rain function and I have several rain mp3's. I love hearing rain.

Every once in a while - like once a year maybe - we get a squall through that makes enough hard rain for me to hear. We are having one as I type this and it's wonderful. I can even hear it with the terrace door closed.

Several people at work today either talked or tweeted about that squall and I completely missed the whole thing. I am grateful, however, that I didn't have to walk home in it. In fact my walk home was totally dry!

I love hearing rain, too, but it rarely rained hard enough when I lived in Seattle. Growing up on Long Island, the family would often sit in the garage with the door open during rain and thunder storms. And if you want rain you can *really* hear, try the Oregon coast.
