This fabulous idea was handed to me (via my newly fixed email) by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] joyofmacs. She asked for a picture of my marbles...

Of course, Jake had to get in the picture...

But then I put my [livejournal.com profile] ruralrob/[livejournal.com profile] androkles hat on and came up with the money shot... click on it for the real deal!

All but a handful of these were won, fair and square, from my cousin. I only had one cousin. And he only had the three of us for cousins. We lived about 1,500 miles apart so we didn't see each other much. He was (actually still is) 4 years older than me and kept the marbles coming thinking being beat out by a girl was a fluke that would turn right with the next game. These marbles are my trophy.

Awwwww! I'm so glad to have been the part-inspirer of two great pictures.
And I'm so glad you haven't lost them.

Let nobody say that Susan has lost her marbles, because now we've got the pictures to prove it ain't so.

And what pictures! Both of these are of course good, but you may be surprised to hear that the first one with Jake is actually the better of the two. Why? Well, the composition is absolutely bang on - Jake's head is in exactly the right place and it complements perfectly both in form and in coloring/texture the main subject matter. And any photo which juxtaposes two unlikely elements like these wins my vote. Pus its a kind of visual pun too - always a plus.

In short, Susan, you've produced a good photo in the second case but something akin to competition quality in the first. And I'd hazard a guess you didnt even know it.

Congratulations! And keep at it . . .

Can I be an accidental artist?

Absolutely. And here's what I would do to make the photo absolutely perfect. Go in to your finishing program and experiment with rotating the image slightly a few degrees clockwise so that Jake's head is absoluley parallel with the top and bottom of the photo. (You are aiming for perfect symmetry here). Then crop the image so that it appears rectangular again. Try to keep the cropping of the final result as symmetrical as possible. Follow me?

Next step; Go to the photo community [livejournal.com profile] color_theory, join and then post this photo - no caption or explanation required. The reason is this one deserves a wider audience than just your humble friends, and I think those folks will like this one.....

And be proud of what you've created!

Yes, the placement of Jake's nose exactly at the edge of the bowl is perfect.

Hmmm...wouldn't they make wonderful Jigsaw Puzzles?
Once again, I have taken a suggestive idea from your postings and have been sitting here in this heat (94 now)working on jigsaw puzzles. (thanks also to Idajo's sites)

Can I use your pic, with photo credit, for possible use on my relaunched MAeX - miamiartexchange.com (http://www.miamiartexchange.com/)? It could be really good looking as the splash image... :-)

ditto the comments.
like them both, but particularly
the one with Jake and the reflections
around the bowl.
is this one of those large stainless
steel mixing bowls? I've never seen
one this reflective.
