Give me no credit for this
Jul. 15th, 2003 05:08 pmThis fabulous idea was handed to me (via my newly fixed email) by the wonderful
joyofmacs. She asked for a picture of my marbles...
Of course, Jake had to get in the picture...

But then I put my
All but a handful of these were won, fair and square, from my cousin. I only had one cousin. And he only had the three of us for cousins. We lived about 1,500 miles apart so we didn't see each other much. He was (actually still is) 4 years older than me and kept the marbles coming thinking being beat out by a girl was a fluke that would turn right with the next game. These marbles are my trophy.

Date: 2003-07-15 05:28 pm (UTC)And what pictures! Both of these are of course good, but you may be surprised to hear that the first one with Jake is actually the better of the two. Why? Well, the composition is absolutely bang on - Jake's head is in exactly the right place and it complements perfectly both in form and in coloring/texture the main subject matter. And any photo which juxtaposes two unlikely elements like these wins my vote. Pus its a kind of visual pun too - always a plus.
In short, Susan, you've produced a good photo in the second case but something akin to competition quality in the first. And I'd hazard a guess you didnt even know it.
Congratulations! And keep at it . . .

I liked the one with Jake but now that you've explained it, I really really like it. And so does Jake - but he's still kind of pissed that it was marbles and not munchies.

Date: 2003-07-15 05:54 pm (UTC)Absolutely. And here's what I would do to make the photo absolutely perfect. Go in to your finishing program and experiment with rotating the image slightly a few degrees clockwise so that Jake's head is absoluley parallel with the top and bottom of the photo. (You are aiming for perfect symmetry here). Then crop the image so that it appears rectangular again. Try to keep the cropping of the final result as symmetrical as possible. Follow me?
Next step; Go to the photo community
And be proud of what you've created!

Once again, I have taken a suggestive idea from your postings and have been sitting here in this heat (94 now)working on jigsaw puzzles. (thanks also to Idajo's sites)
