I could have sworn I'd posted this before but I can't find it. So if you've heard this one, just move along and pretend it's for the new people, okay?

Mom now has 5 grandchildren but way back in 1980, just as her first one turned 1 and a half, her second one was born in San Diego. She flew from North Carolina to San Diego and scooped up the first one - Alex - so his parents could have some new baby time. At the time, she and Daddy lived about an hour and a half from me and I lived close to the airport. So after Daddy picked them up at the airport, they stopped at my house to rest up before the drive home.

Mom, after hours and miles of being the sole soul for this little guy, left him in the living room with us while she went down the hall to the bathroom. The minute she was out of sight, he went balistic. He ran screaming after her, yelling what sounded to us like MONKEY!! MOOOOONKEEEEY! MONKEY!!!

We never did figure out what he was saying but she has been Monkey to her grandchildren ever since.

Last year or the year before, when I was there, she got an email from someone that had a smiley face graphic in it and she was enamoured. She made me show her how to put a smiley in her email. I found a website with all kinds of smilies and little graphics and one had several different monkeys. She was so excited.

Of all the computer things I've taught her, this is one that has truly stuck. She knows exactly when to use them in email and when not to.

When I first got home this afternoon, I hadn't heard from her in a while so I PCAnywhere'd over there to make sure she was alive and, sure enough, she'd screwed up her desktop again. I fixed it all. And then left. About 4 minutes later, I heard from her:

As I surf the vast expanses the web provides, I pick up graphics here and there! I enjoy sharing (well, they weren't 'zactly mine to begin with!). If you think Mom would enjoy these, please pass them along!
