Waiting... waiting...
Jul. 26th, 2003 07:55 amI'm up and ready to go but it's too early.
I have a car full of stuff for Goodwill but they don't open until 9. It's not yet 8. I'm thinking of doing a little MacDonald's for breakfast but I'm not thinking it will be the kind of breakfast one wants to linger over to the tune of more than an hour.
I do want to get out and get back pretty sharply. There's a baseball game at 1 p.m. Traffic. But, then there's a run that starts and stops here in the 'hood and usually attracks about 7,000 people. And after that there's the annual torchlight parade.
The parade starts up by the Space Needle and winds through town until it gets here - it ends right in the parking lot out my terrace. I generally see the first floats about 9 p.m. It's quite fun.
While I'm generally right here in the condo on most weekends, I absolutely will be today. Cheerfully.
I'm trying not to buy a new camera. I want a Cannon PowerShot A400. I don't need it. At all. And I want the new Treo when it comes out this fall. So no camera. None. Forget it. Don't even think about it unless you win the lottery and, FYI, that ain't going to happen unless you buy a ticket.
Maybe I'll collect all the trash and take that down to the dumpsters....

Date: 2003-07-26 08:20 am (UTC)We have a Cannon PowerShot A20 which is about 2 years old. No doubt the 400 is quite different from the 20, but my experiences may be relevant.
For the most part we like our camera. The picture quality is good, though it doesn't do very well with particularly close shots or action, which often turn out blury.
It would be exceptionally easy to use but for one small flaw. You have to hold down the shutter button for a long time to get it to take a picture. So the perfectly timed candid shot never works. The cat you've been trying to photograph finally looks your way, you click the shutter, and 3 seconds later, after the cat's lost interest in you entirely, you finally get your shot. (I just tried it to see how long you really had to hold the button down, and that's what happened)
If you asked me if I'd purchase another one just like this one, I'd have to say "No!" because of the slow shutter. No idea if they've done anything on newer or higher end cameras to fix this problem, but if you do decide to make a camera purchase, I'd check that out first.
