The new eye doctor's office called to say that my redone glasses were ready.  So I went to pick them up.  I was impressed with the patience and thoroughness of the fit your glasses lady.  She worked hard to make them perfect.  Since I've only had eyeglasses fitted by a  professional once in my life (and it was a real negative experience), I had no clue what she was doing but she was working really hard so I was impressed.

I got them home and slapped them on and looked at my computer and OMG!  I can see!!  It's really quite remarkable.  Now having worn them for about 4 hours, I can tell that it's going to take some getting used to.  They bother my nose and they bother where they land over my ears.  BUT, they don't slide off and did I mention that I can see?!!!  And I can even see things around me so I don't have to take them off, for instance to see the TV.  I can see the TV better without them but for a short glance, it's perfectly fine.  And it means I don't have to whip them on and off so much.

I heard the fit your glasses lady tell another customer that the rule of thumb is 3 days getting used to new glasses.  So, I'll give these three days and if they nose and ears still bother me, I'll go back to her and she'll be happy to fix, I'm sure.

Twice today I have wanted to sign up for something or check something and had facebook be the only option to do that.  NFW.  I don't want anything that badly.

I ordered two things for summer.  An ottoman and a hotplate.

The ottoman turns into a twin bed.  On wheels.  Every summer there is at least one or two nights or more when it is just too hot to sleep.  I have made a pallet out of blankets and slept on the terrace but this year I will have a little cot I can roll out there or just unfold in front of the air conditioner.  Just knowing I have that option will allow me to sleep better all Summer.  It should be here next week and I even have figured out, I think, where to keep it.

And I ordered a portable induction burner.  I have a glass top electric oven that pretty much serves as my heat source in the winter.  It takes a week to heat up and another to cool down - both the cook top and the oven.  I'm fine with that in the winter but in the Summer, no way jose.  Usually I just don't heat stuff on the stove but this year I want to eat Anita's meals and some of them need stove top work.  So I bought a burner.  Two of my pans already have magnet friendly bottoms so I might not even need any new pans.  We shall see.  It should be here tomorrow.

So I'm set.  I hate Summer heat so much but, honestly, I think I have now worked myself up so much about it that I totally over react to the heat and to the threat of heat.  It started about the time of menopause.  I never got hot flashes, I just got kind of a personal global warming that never went away.  But, now, I think it's 95% psychosomatic.

This Summer I'm going to try and ignore the heat and not worry about the heat and build in heat coping mechanisms before the heat arrives and hope it never does.

Tonight's dinner is some kind of potato thing that just looks amazing.  I do not remember what Anita said was inside it but I'm betting it's perfection.  But, now it's back to work.  I have another hour and then I'm done for the day.

I'll be curious to see how well the portable induction top works. I have a regular old electric stove top (coils!), and a faster heat up & cool down would be nice, since there's no AC in the kitchen. :P

I'll second this. I'm really interested in how this works! (Our rental also has coils!)

A week to heat up and cool down? Really? That seems a bit excessive. (If you were exaggerating for comic effect, um, well, nevermind.)

Oh come on now, the advantages of an account are endless. Heck, you might even meet some Congressperson with a ripped body who will send you pictures. :-)
