Odd happenings...
Jul. 16th, 2011 08:45 amThe software that shows my webcam has an audio feature - you can select and play an audio clip. It's used very rarely. But when it is, since it means someone is looking at me via the camera, if I hear it, I look at the camera, smile and wave.
Last night, I heard the audio clip play and smiled and waved and happened again and I smiled and waved again and again and finally I just tuned it out. Then my phone rang - the phone that is the public number. It was right by me so I looked at the number and didn't recognize it. It was a little late for a telemarketer so I answered it.
A very deep very male and exceedingly creepy voice addressed me by name. He told me I looked very nice. He asked me if I wanted to chat. I hung up. The phone rang several more times - from different numbers and I just ignored it.
I cannot tell who is looking at my camera but I can see the IP addresses and generally checked where in the world that IP is coming from so I went to check that and the camera was frozen. Not working. Weird. So I rebooted the router and the camera came back.
There were several IP addresses looking - all, except my brother (he keeps me 'up' on a monitor in his shop), were on the east coast. None looked particularly funky.
But, it was a little disconcerting. Seriously, only a little. I'm very public in everything and so I can't be surprised. Mr. Deep Creepy Voice could even be reading this.
I live on the 4th floor of a very secure building. I'm not worried or creeped out. If someone wants to look, I'm cool with that. If they want to call, I can not answer. It was just the convergence of it all that gave me a bit of a pause. But, I'm back on play now.
