My Sunday so far... Jes like I like it
Jul. 17th, 2011 11:20 amIt's cloudy and cool and even a little drizzly. I enjoyed a leisurely get up this morning. When I finally did, I got the laundry started and got a shower and headed down to the car.
I had a DVD to take back to the library and I had my license tab to get onto the car (which I did, a full 2 weeks before it is required - how proud am I????), and so I figured I'd drive to brunch somewhere.
Somewhere turned out to be Skillet Diner. Skillet Diner used to be just a truck and now it is a truck plus. I had read about their new digs but had never been there. It turns out to be 2 blocks from where
machupicchu lives. I expected kind of a thrown together small hole in the wall. It's not that at all. It's artfully crafted with care and actually a good size - tables for maybe 60 peops with counter space for another 10.
My breakfast was different and good and the menu for dinner looked delicious so I will be back but... I will not sit at the counter - the stools are exactly the wrong height and while my legs dangle, the blood is cut off at the thigh. And it's way too close to the kitchen heat. I will not go when it's crowded. I get why trendy places like noise - it generates a feeling of being 'alive!', I'm not so thrilled with it. I like to eavesdrop but this was just clatter.
My waitress was wonderful and full o' service. But another downside of sitting at the counter - just next to the cash register is that I got an up close and personal view of the staff interactions. There was one really really really delicious looking guy waiter who was clearly a Professional Diva and who had successfully executed his plan of alienating the rest of the staff. I didn't need to hear all that.
After breakfast I took a little walk around the neighborhood. I'd been north of
machupicchu but now south. It's a wonderful residential section with all kinds of treats. This was in the side yard of one house:
And this was on the side of a garage of another:
It was a perfect little walk.
As I rounded the the street to my own house, I noticed a car parked on the street and it's ass end just cracked me up.
I dated a guy who raced Porshe's once. He had his driving Porsche and his racing Porsche. I even went to the Porshe Club of America's annual convention and still have the name badge to prove it. My friend, John, bought himself a brand new Porsche for his retirement. I never got it. They were most uncomfortable to ride in and their radios sucked. But, clearly my opinion is not shared by many. The idea their racing team is obsolete just makes me giggle.
Now I am home and the laundry is in the dryer and I'm getting ready to watch CBS Sunday morning.
