My visitor arrived safe and sound. Their plane landed at 3 and we were together at baggage claim by 3:05. The luggage got there quickly and we were on the train to here.

They are wallowing in the 2 digit temperature. There is about 40 degrees difference between here and where they live - Georgetown, Tx. Ugh. But they are very happy campers right now. They have gone to bed happily under the ceiling fan. It's a little more than 2 hours from here to the ferry if you don't hit traffic and they are shooting for the 9:30 ferry. So they are in snoozeland.

We headed out earlier for The Melting Pot and got there to discover the wait was 1.5 hours. Er, nope. But, thanks anyway. We made reservations for Saturday. Plan B was the Tamerind Tree in the International District but I screwed up and we landed in traffic on 15th headed to Ballard with no good way to turn around.

So, we changed plans and headed for Red Mill which I'd never tried and has long reputed to be the best burger in Seattle. In fact, I was not exactly sure where it was so my brother looked it up by using Best Burger In Seattle as search terms and found it immediately.

As a Plan B it was a fail. It was a very mediocre meal - not even close to the best burger I've ever had in Seattle.

It's a shame to waste a meal like that when I have such good company to share it with. I could have and should have done the the first Red Mill trip on my own.

Oh well, at least we didn't have to wait 1.5 hours!

I think Friday night might be Crab Pot - it's very touristy but my sister-in-law likes crab a lot and seafood... and they have good crab and we can get the thing where they dump it all out on the table and give you a bib and a hammer. I think she'd like that.

The other thing she wants to do is get a funky not-Texas looking hair cut. I'm stumped. I think it's time to give Rudy's a try. There was a woman at Red Mill's who had an asymmetrical do that was pretty funky and we both agreed we liked it and I'm pretty sure that Rudy's does that kind of stuff so I think that's what we will do about that.

My brother said they were going to try and catch a ferry on Friday that would put them back here about 2ish which would be great - we'd have some of Friday and all of Saturday.

Their flight is early Sunday morning.

Right now I'm watching the Mariner game with the TV on mute (when you live in a loft, you can't quite close the door and hope the sound does not carry... it carries just fine and dandy. But this game deserves to be on mute - the Mariners are down 4 in the 6th. I just saw one Mariner take a fastball the face and then another one crashed into the crowd trying to catch a fly. No sound is fine.

Plus I think I'm going to catch up on G+ and then listen to my book and play computer games for a little bit and then sleep myself.

Woohoo for visitors arriving safely but Boo for a mediocre Plan B. Oh well. I think that your two other meal plans sound wonderful. I have never been (but want to go) to the Melting Pot. We have one maybe 45 minutes away, but Jesse has no desire to go somewhere that involves making his own food. hehe I need to drag a friend there or something one day. The crab place, though, sounds right up my alley. I would LOVE a place like that.

Have a wonderful night!!

Sounds like an iinteresting outline for a visit. Arrive, spend part of a day together catching up, go away for a couple of days, come back for a couple of days, go home. :~}

Sorry to hear about the restaurant failures. Hopefully the reservations at the Melting Pot will make up for it.

Your sis-in-law has more style courage than I. At my age, I haven't the guts to go funky or asymmetrical. Of course, I didn't do those things at any age.

The crab place sounds great. A dig in and get your fingers all messy kind a place. Enjoy!

yeah the hype around red mill is sad ... it's not bad but it's not worth making a special trip for

I have long wished I heard of the Melting Pot before my lactose intolerance got so bad/complete. Now I have looked more closely, I think I am glad I didn't - I couldn't have afforded it then. It does look tasty, except for the part where I couldn't eat as much dairy as I'd be exposed to. Ah well. It'll save me money, I guess...or at least a drive; the nearest one to me is in downtown Portland.

I did the crab place once when I lived in Seattle, and it's something everyone should do at least once. So much fun!
