Now I know why Larry wanted to trade parking spaces. His mustang convertible is too long. Now that I've had a chance to get in and out of the spot several times, I understand. I thought, after the first couple of times that I had fucked up by trading.

But, I just went out to mail a package (and get a chocolate milk shake - yum) and when I got back, I got into the space the first shot. (Instead of having to back/forward/twist/back/forward, etc.) So I think it will be fine.

It would be just a perfect spot for a Smart Car and I so want one. I'd love to go take a test drive and really ask about one at the dealership but I'm afraid that I'd walk out with one.

But...

I drive barely enough miles to justify buying gas, much less a new car.
My current car runs fine and is dinged up so new dings don't matter.
A Smart Car would have been worthless this weekend with me and two passengers.

It's [livejournal.com profile] fj's fault. A long time ago he had a user pic of a green one and it was total love at first sight. They were not available here until years later so it was a controllable desire but now I see them everywhere and they are soooo soooo cute. Really.

Sorry lady, that was [livejournal.com profile] pinkfish's icon.

I would like to point you to http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/20/2012-scion-iq-first-drive-review/

Give it a think. A few inches larger than a Smart Car, will probably fit you better, better MPG. And I adore the Scion brand, my own Scion was such a dream.

The iQ was originally a Scion design exercise, but dropped when it seemed unlikely to fit the US target demographic for Scion at the time. The design house tried so hard; styled it super-aggressive at the time, almost comically so, trying to make a 'butch' Smart car.

It was, toned down, released here as a Toyota vehicle (Scion is basically a Toyota US manufacturing and branding exercise) a few years ago, to moderate success. I am seeing more and more on the street, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Scion would release this 'normal' version after all now the energy climate in the US has so changed twentysomethings want to be seen as practical and people older than that will give it a second look.

And yes, I loved loved loved my xA. Loved. I would have married it. I would have fought Dean in the divorce over it. Dean even loved it, and he dislikes cars. It's just so sensible what it saves money on (who on earth needs leather seats in a mini car I go to the beach and city with?) and spends it on (the stereo was awesome and had steering wheel controls for my iPod).

Yeah I was actually considering that: make her wait.

My problem with Smart cars is that while I fit into one just fine (Think about that for a moment. Yes, they are built tall) the windshield stopped too low. My head would clear the ceiling just fine, but I'd be unable to see the hanging stoplights.

Not an issue for you, but still. Never been inside an iQ.

Green probably is cute on the Smart, but nothing screams cute like a Hello Kitty Smart Car. ;)

I approve only of the pink one. Black is a horrible HK base color
