Betty - my long haired cat - is just a mess of mats. About once a year - sometimes she skips a year - she gets mats. Usually I can just cut them out but this year, I can't get ahead of them and they are giving her hairballs which isn't fun for either of us.

There is one cat groomer in a town north of here but finally today I kept googling and yelping until I found one. I called. Hopefully they are busy grooming and that's the only reason they didn't answer. I left a message. I hope I can take her in to get her scraped down so we can start again.

As part of my father's estate, each of my sister's three children get a check every year from the time they are 18 until the time they are 22. It comes out to about $5K. I inherited the responsibility. I have the money in a special account and my financial adviser sends out the checks every August. I noticed the other day when I was checking Mint that he shorted the one who is that age range this year - by about $800 so I called.

Tony, his assistant explained how it happened after he looked into it and it's easy to understand but I explained that I need it fixed asap cause I do no want to enter into another money conversation with my sister. I told her that if she came whining to me, I was sending her right to him. I wouldn't do that of course, because no one deserves that kind of torture but, it made the point.

I'm sure glad I caught it.

Ann continues to be totally frazzled on her own. She's driving me a little crazy. She has some very strong racial prejudices which have until recently only come out once in awhile but now it seems it's all the time and it makes me nuts. I'd like to help her but I don't want to hear how Ron's recuperation place will make her drive through 'where all the black people live'. Nor do I want to hear that she hopes the cabulance driver isn't a towelhead like the regular cab drivers.

I try to lightly allow as how she should be ashamed for even thinking that kind of thing much less saying it out loud but it goes right over her head. Plus, she's so beside herself with stress she can't hear anything anyway.

It's a problem for which I have no solution. I just hope he gets well and fast.

I've been comparing the Scion iQ and the Smart Car and the Smart Car is winning - looks wise - which is pretty much my top criteria. I want it short and adorable. And the Smart Car is that. I think the iQ will be my maybe option. If neither of those work out, then I'm keeping my Escort. After all, it does have a full tank of gas.

that's exactly how i'd buy a car

well, it is if i knew how to drive. features and looks. the engine should be strong enough to carry my fat ass around town and there should be a/c ... and wheels: one in each corner ... and it should look cool.

The cup holder is key. I love my mini but the cup holders they put in (with the exception of the one for the back seat) will not hold anything larger than a small coffee because of where they placed them. Dad's solution? Put in an aftermarket one that smacks the passenger in the knee every time you move it to shift into 5th gear. Ugh.

If it's going over her head, you're being too subtle. Why not give her an out while being clear? "I'm sure you're just talking this way because you're so stressed about Ron, but the racist things you've been saying make me very uncomfortable. Please stop doing it around me."

May I add my two cents after having owned two 2-seaters as my only vehicle? The first for 12 years, the second for 14. If you really want a two-seater, get it. For those times when you need more capacity, visitors, what have you, RENT. That's how I did it. Never regretted it for a minute - and I always had the car I really wanted. :)

Glad I could help with a little validation for that thought, then.

Sarah Kitty has been getting more hair mats lately. I am not sure what it up with that. She grooms and looks good in general, but I feel mats on her chest/tummy region. I would NEVER brush this cat or attempt to go near her with sharp objects. Sadly I am afraid a groomer would sue me if I took her there...so we just suffer through the hairballs or finding huge tuffs of fur on the floor. I tell her that she is a beautiful girl but a pain in my ass.

I have never researched the smaller cars so I do not have any advice. There are a couple of Smart Cars in our town, and Gavin likes to tell me that we could fit two in my Family Truckster. Probably could.

If you do get a tiny car, please promise me you'll get the wind up key accessory (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpJnlt518n8&NR=1).
