I have never worn seatbelts. I understand the ramifications, I chose not to wear them. However, this new car will be changing my ways.

Where other cars screech loudly when you don't fasten them, and then shut up, this car does not.

In fact, it does not even mention it... until you are rolling. Once you are underway, it starts quietly, kind of sweetly, whining at you. It took me a while to figure out that the sound was coming from the car and then what it was. But, once I figured it out, I also figured out that the only way to stop it was to put on my seatbelt. Which I now do.

Sigh. Oh well, it will probably save me a ton in fines. It was only a matter of time before I got caught.

Ah yes, that weird American thing about the govt ;-) I suppose it's different here as we have a taxpayer-funded public health system, so if you don't wear your belt and crash you cost me money, so there is an acceptance of a communal level of responsibility to some degree.

And the world is a better place for us all if you don't go flying through your windscreen ;-)

My friend Janet in England is a specialist reconstructive surgical nurse. Or in other words she helps reassemble people who have smashed their faces to wreckage in accidents. She said there was a huge change in workload when seatbelts were made compulsory and again when crash helmets were mandated. The supply of organs for transplant dropped off too.

I'm actually a little mad at you for not wearing seatbelts. I'd miss you if you were killed.

If this would Facebook I would "like" this comment. :)

Jon never wore his seatbelt and then after we got married, I was always reminding him to do it. He just never got into the habit. Finally I said that it would really suck for me if he were killed, and how stupid to be killed over something like not having a piece of webbing strapped across your body, so I would appreciate if he would wear it. It worked eventually and now it is habit.

That sounds like as good a reason as any to wear one! I'm alive because of a seatbelt. I don't care that the government wants me to wear one for society's good. I wear one for my own good.

She'll do that for your passenger too.

"Beep. Beep. Excuse me. Beep. Beep. Excuse me, please. Beep. Please seatbelt. Beep. Beep. Hey. Beep. Excuse me. Beep. Please? Beep? Beep?"
