For the past two days I've worked hard not to laugh at local and national news reporters mangling the names of towns and places along the southeast coast of the country. I spent many years in those parts and hearing how they pronounce places is like listening to a foreign language and doing the translation in my head.

I think I can kind of see alternate pronunciations of Ocracoke, but making Kill Devil Hills, Kill Devils Hill or Kill Devils Hills is just not paying attention.

Everybody seems to get Kitty Hawk without error.

But, you know, if it weren't for the occasional hurricane, that area of the country wouldn't get any attention at all.

Travis and I are enjoying Saturday morning in bed with computer, coffee, NPR. I actually do have plans for today but it's too early for them yet. My first stop is the Smart Car dealer and I want to give Bud - the salesman - time to get in and get organized for his day. He does not strike me the type who gets there early and ready to go - especially on a Saturday.

But, I'm also going to take the long way - side roads, I think - just because I can.

At least now, it's not so much about the destination but about the driving of the car. And the listening of the tunes - I'm loving the sound system. Plus it's air conditioned cool.

After the dealer, I have a short list of other stuff to do. All want to, none need to.

I do need to be mindful of a 1 pm Sounders game. I need to get home either before noon or after 1.

Fun day ahead.

Just catching up on LJ after two very hectic weeks, and was totally blown away by your "the internet is down, I think I'll buy a car". When we first started following each other here, you almost never drove. The times, they are a-changing. :-)

The seat belt thing is a factor of the height of a person's neck while seated. I get strangled in most cars, but my Corolla was made for smaller people so it fits me just fine. And I may have adjusted something where the belt attaches to the car frame.

If the car has a built-in theft alarm, the beeping may be the car telling you it was bumped, probably when it wasn't - the motion sensor in the alarm may be set to too high a sensitivity.

Wishing you the best of all car-related stuffs.

I remember being in the Midwest and being amused that "Oregon" became "Oh-ree-gone".

Uh, no.

I get that with Norfolk (Va), which, as a native, I pronounce "Naw-f'k", but which everyone else seems to think has an R, an O and an L in there somewhere.
