The good and the annoying...

I had kind of considered going to Skylark Cafe for brunch this morning but 1. They don't open til 9 and it's going to be hot so I needed to get out and back as early as possible and 2. Getting to West Seattle from here still sucks donkey balls.

So I went to the Rusty Pelican instead. I'd never eaten there and always wanted to so i did and it was delightful. I found a parking space in the shade and there was no waiting and I got a great table and a cute waiter who kept my coffee topped off. The menu is extensive. I had a delicious omlette.

As I was leaving, I spotted a perfectly amazing looking bloody mary. So. In hopes that the the toddlers who had yet to be taught about indoor voices, won't be there, I plan to go back tomorrow. Their sign said they were open on Labor Day so I say why the fuck not?!

I walked around the neighborhood some - the houses part, not the retail part and it was fun. It's one of the older neighborhoods in Seattle so the yards are small and you can see into the houses and around the sides and sometimes in the backs. It's fascinating.

Then I got into the car and kind of wandered around and ended up in Freemont where I spied the Sunday market which was quite huge today - part crafts, part food, part yard sale. I parked the car and walked around a bit but the sun was way too hot so I bought flowers and came home.

It was a nice little outing. I think the rest of the day will be bear knitting and baseball watching and just doing this and that. My favorite kind of day. My co-worker didn't do what I expected her to on Friday so I have a couple of hours of work to do, too. Which is fine.

At the risk of offending some who may read this, I am over the 10th anniversary of 9/11. I can remember it just fine, thank you. I don't need 80 hours of TV and radio programming going over every detail again and again and again. I will be extremely glad when the 12th comes around.

I will be listening to saved podcasts and watching TiVo until this wallowing is over.

I'm with you on 9/11. "Olds" is a huge reason I left journalism and never looked back.

Time to give O. Henry, D.H. Lawrence, Bear Bryant, and Lola Falana their birthday back.

The Rusty Pelican is in Wallingford. Right there on 45th kitty cornered from the two movie theaters. I'll bet you passed it about a bajillion times.

I'm with you on the 9/11 stuff, although I'm somewhat protected by the fact that the only TV I watch live is baseball. I have a feeling I'm going to read next Sunday's newspaper really fast, and I hope the local public radio's classical music station doesn't go too over the top.
