Full time fish?
Sep. 12th, 2011 04:26 pmI am giving serious thought to abandoning the gym for the pool. I could do both but I'm wondering if I will.
The gym is $128 a quarter. I feel guilty when I pay and don't go. The pool is $37.50 for 10 times. So if I swim 5 days a week, it will be roughly twice as much to swim as to gym.
I can go to the gym any time I want. Swim is very scheduled. But there are a lot of classes and maybe sometimes I just want to go to and swim laps or do my own thing.
Will winter time make a difference? The only reason I do any of it is to ensure I have enough stamina to do what I want to do. Will swimming give me that? I think so. The muscles in my arms (and in my legs) are already telling me that they got a workout today.
I think I'm going to try the pool for a week. This pool that I went to today has a class every day at noon. Tuesday and Thursdays are Aqua Jog (the same class I took last Friday) and Monday, Wednesday and Friday is the class I took today.
As it happens my quarterly gym bill is due at the end of next week so I can try this for a test for week or two and then decide.

Date: 2011-09-12 11:43 pm (UTC)The gym is all about finding socks and tying shoes and making sure I have phone and headphones and then getting all sweaty, walking home, getting undressed, not the shower and finding clothes and getting dressed again...
It's really way mental but swimming seems so much like you describe, nicer, easier and zen...

Date: 2011-09-13 01:12 am (UTC)My only caveat is make sure you have at least two swimsuits. Nothing worse than a damp suit and they really do best air drying. Now that I've had my surgery and swimming is an option again I can't wait to get back into the pool. (4 more weeks!)

Date: 2011-09-13 02:07 am (UTC)Are you planning on lap swimming ever? I have prescription goggles (not expensive) and training flippers. Without the flippers my legs just kicked and moved me as fast as an inch an hour.
