One of my readers, Janine, got me started on the balloon festival research and I looked up Washington possibilities. The Prosser one looks to be the biggest and, possibly, the easiest to get to. I think I could stand that drive. http://www.prosserballoonrally.org/

Yes, but -- the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest hot air balloon festival in the world, and I need a reason to scratch New Mexico off my States Visited List! I can't really think of any other reason as a contender.

Albuquerque: 600 balloons (http://www.balloonfiesta.com/guest-guide/faqs). Walla Walla Balloon Stampede: 40 balloons (http://www.everythingnorthwest.com/walla-walla-balloon-stampede.php). Still, I suppose one of the Washington events could serve as an appetizer to the New Mexico event!

That said, turns out the Albuquerque event is ongoing this week. So if I want to find out if there's any chance of making it next year, I need to start researching, like, now.

You can go to Albuquerque and I'll go to Walla Walla and then we can compare notes. I think seeing 40 balloons would be amazing.

The more I read about Albuquerque, the more complicated and crowded it sounds... and expensive. I can drive the adorable car to Walla Walla - makes it all so much easier.
